When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.

😮 A university without a library ceases to be a university. Full stop. I’m flabbergasted that a “determination” about a library’s future — besides FUND IT AND STAFF IT — needs to be made by an institute of higher learning.

Hot take - the main problem with this parking lot has nothing to do with parking spaces for cars. It's that the bike parking is way to far away from the store!

the idea that a handful of conservative legal scholars have an understanding that should supersede a settlement affirmed my generations of american is astoundingly arrogant, and the idea that trump — or any president — can unilaterally overturn that settlement is just despotism

Hi @npr.org! We worked late tonight putting together this handy pocket guide! It doesn't address road design issues, but if we're going to educate road users, we should include drivers. It's the size of a folded business card. Print it, fold it, put it in your wallet!
"How Do You Avoid Hitting People With Your Car" pocket guide. Instructs readers to Watch the Road and Slow Down. Further text humorously insists that watching the road and slowing down are indeed important.

Democrats seem to have made their decision: they want a (probably short-term) extension of ACA subsidies in exchange for passing a budget bill. In other words, they want something Republicans need in exchange for something Republicans want. From me:
prospect.org
Democrats Bet Briefly Preventing a Health Insurance Apocalypse Is Good Politics
Their ask in exchange for avoiding a government shutdown is an extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies. What happens when Republicans say no?

This is an example of how civil society silences itself under authoritarianism. The West Point alumni group announced the award in June, and then effectively canceled it in September. No explanation, just a vague sense that they are afraid of displeasing the regime.
"Tom Hanks has done more for the positive portrayal of the American service member, more for the caring of the American veteran, their caregivers and their family, and more for the American space program and all branches of government than many other Americans," Robert McDonald, a former secretary of veterans affairs and the alumni association's board chairman, said in the June announcement.

Russia and the United States will meet for the second time in Alaska to discuss the sovereignty of another people. The first time in 1867, they ignored the sovereignty of all Alaska Natives. Today, whatever they agree on won't change the fact that Ukrainians control their own future.
