The photo doesn’t do it justice- Really amazing coastal view with gigantic waves crashing on the arch Hōlei Sea Arch

I’ve been working on the cinnamon rolls- turns out the smaller ones seem dinky but it’s good to have varied sizes since some people like larger cinnamon rolls and others want a small one or seconds with a small one.
Cinnamon rolls before baking, a dozen cut of various sizes lined on a greased pan, a hand towel half covering the rolls to rise Four warm cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting, plated with forks, ready to eat! On top of a counter

What does it mean when robots act human? What about when robots perceive & learn the world, dole out advice, express what could be interpreted as more than a brain- but also heart? Why do some human characters in this book seem more robot? This book is about technology &humanities: Klara and the Sun
Book cover of “Klara and the Sun” by Kazuo Ishiguro, a red cover with a yellow cartoon hand with a sun in the palm.

WSU Pullman archives has several collections about the WWII Heart Mountain Relocation Center. This yearbook shows Japanese American high school students- when I saw this I thought of the supportive adults & students wanting to maintain this tradition of a yearbook- even during times of hardship 🗃️

Also adding here that I have not worked this hard as a writer in a while- (!) in the past two weeks, I sent two paper drafts, one for a symposium group to workshop, the other for a festschrift. Then, a symposium from 2+ years ago is asking for final edits on a different paper by next week.

Diversity is not an ideology. It is an American reality. Removing the study of race, gender, culture, and identity from the core does not protect students from politics—it makes a political choice to leave them unprepared for the world.

Editing is so odd- l’m reviewing a draft of a paper accepted for an anthology from 2 plus years ago- and with totally fresh eyes I see what arguments work and what doesn’t. I also see where I can tighten my writing. It’s amazing how time and space give enough distance to really work a paper.

My research in the Alaska Native newspaper “The Tundra Times” took me down this rabbit hole- where an Alaska Native case study from the 1960s/1970s is here- from southeast Alaska This is tangential to my research, but my curiosity to this reference made me see what this author said.

Dr Jeongmin Kim uncovers rare archival finds on the ways that gender and sex very much informed a black market wartime economy in Korea linking Asia (Korea and Japan) and North America (the US) including multiple forms of migration from civilians, post-war marriages, & deployment during occupation.

One of the best pieces of advice I received from a faculty mentor in grad school was not to tie my entire identity into being a scholar, that each individual has several identities. It honestly made it easier for me to make major life decisions based on my gut and never an ascribed identity.

I miss the way my grandma talked with intonations in her voice. When she said a word in Inupiaq or English she spoke deliberately and her intonations would rise and fall with each word. She would even say my name like “Haaalee” with the “a” sound in my name rising then falling with the “lee” sound.
