Jon was just into the real thing. He had a huge memory bank & couldn’t get his head around why nobody else read like he did. This week we scattered his ashes on the Riviera, near where F.Scott wrote Tender is the Night. He’s watching us. Best not fuck up on the detail.

Wodehouse said it best (see alt text)
“The trouble with you, Spode, is that just because you have succeeded in inducing a handful of half-wits to disfigure the London scene by going about in black shorts, you think you're someone. You hear them shouting "Heil, Spode!" and you imagine it is the Voice of the People. That is where you make your bloomer. What the Voice of the People is saying is: "Look at that frightful ass Spode swanking about in footer bags! Did you ever in your puff see such a perfect perisher?”

We often forget that authors are people too. They're driven by a need for readers, the search for some kind of recognition and the desire 'to make it'. Scammers know it though. And they hope they will get an author at a low moment that will sway them towards the scam. Keep that in mind.

This thing seems to be out in the open now, so even though publication’s eight months away, let’s drum up some early interest, shall we? Wayfarers is out next April. Here’s the cover.
A book cover. Wayfarers: The Incredible Story of Animal Migration, by Lev Parikian. It’s mostly blue, with swirling patterns representing movement, and stylised images of various migrating animals (butterflies, terns, a whale, bats, wildebeest, dragonflies, penguins, an arctic fox) dotted about the place.

We placed a tracking device in a shipment of rare books to see which AI company was buying it, and found an Amazon facility where Amazon scans and destroys books.

Ok, time for a thread about what I saw yesterday at #CrystalPalace. As you can see, just about everything has been repaired and re-painted, and in places (like the previously misidentified Xiphodon) re-positioned. It looks fantastic and you have to check it out, even if you've visited before...
