I'm working on a little short story about how AI is currently a brain in a jar, and with all the young folks craving life like in the 80s and 90s, well... imagine we had to seal off the internet, and most digital comms. Go back to broadcast media, newspapers, analog phones with landlines.

It's easy if you're a big, dumb baby who has never been told no, or never listened to a single smart person, ever.

Dolly Parton understood something that too many of my public health colleagues have not grasped: a good idea isn't sufficient — you have to sell it. So she got vaccinated in front of cameras, and literally begged her fans to not hesitate, to vaccinate — to a reworking of Jolene

If you’ve never heard the (very cool) 33rpm slowed-down version of Jolene, you should really listen to it now—listening to it at that speed lets you hear how incredibly on-pitch Dolly is the entire time. She was a marvel

Adios, Dolly Parton, who endured decades of sexism and shitty jokes from shitty men only to outlive them all with wit, kickass music, and a heart as big as the Smokies. Generations of kids are smarter and kinder because of her giving a damn about them. The rare icon who deserved all her glory.

Absolutely a brilliant songwriter and also someone who knew her own worth - she famously turned down Elvis covering one of her songs because Col. Tom Parker (Elvis' manager) insisted she hand over a large chunk of the songwriter royalties for the privilege. Smart, and right, to stand up for herself.
