It’s just depressing. Further education has been cut to ribbons. Higher education is in crisis. Labour turns its eyes to the bit of the education system which is turning out the highest literacy rates in the western world and goes “that’s the bit that needs to change”

The other issue with vocational at 14 is implicit selection. Well off families will ensure their kids do academic courses. This happens at 16 anyway but at least we give everyone a chance to get a set of academic quals.

Had an interesting conversation about inclusion in our SEND/AP schools yesterday that concluded with us suggesting that whilst we're proper hot on what you'd traditionally think of as 'inclusive practice', for us, ensuring access to a knowledge-rich curriculum for ALL is our inclusion focus.

Do you remember when we stopped using levels and for a while lots of schools went mad creating even worse versions of levels but with colours and bizarre labels, and measuring things that shouldn’t be measured? Seems a fitting time to mention that happened.

Ofsted is proposing judging schools on a five point scale in ten different poorly defined areas. If you're keeping your head while all around you are losing theirs you may not have adequately understood the situation.
