Yes though from the Toronto context, I think the left here often gets to "explain why it has happened" and then assume the argument is over; a lot of time and words were expended explaining why Rob Ford's criticisms of City Hall lacked important context and basically none of it mattered.

Name recognition and incumbency are still given too much weight in municipal elections, in my experience. We will have better leaders if we choose based on leadership ability, actual experience/background, policy priorities, listening/learning skills, integrity, and good judgement/decision-making.
