Where did the far-right get the idea Britain was existentially imperilled and so should fortify itself as a white Christian ethnostate? Who embedded such notions in their head? Who emboldened them so? Truly, it is a mystery.

In highs school I worked part time at a Pizza Inn. I got sick during my shift with a temp of 102 and I asked to go home and got a lecture from the manager about how he can’t just leave if he doesn’t feel good. I replied “well I’m not 40 yrs old and managing a pizza in”. He fired me

Having quit the party in 2023, this makes sense to me. They hounded out the left; what remains is something to the left of the Tories, and only eager to pitch rightwards

Pretty shocked by these figures as I’d assumed it was still the case that Labour members are more liberal than the leadership. But here we are, and this is the party, still described by some as a party of the left, which the Greens are supposed to be making common cause with
Despite the criticism from prominent MPs, Labour members, who will vote in any future leadership election, are more divided on the issue.

Polling from YouGov published on Wednesday suggested that more than half of party members say they want the same or more restrictive immigration policies. Just 26% said they wanted a more liberal approach, 44% backed Mahmood’s changes and 18% said they would prefer an even tougher approach.

The poll shows roughly half of Labour members believe the party faces a greater risk of losing votes to Reform. Just 15% think vote losses to the Greens are the bigger issue, and 27% said both pose an equal threat.

For me, the most striking thing about the Supreme Court's opinion killing off the Voting Rights Act is how *casual* it is. Short, dry, uncomplicated, barely bothers engaging with the dissent. Just 37 pages of Sam Alito rewriting the law to say what he wishes it said, and then clocking out.

The conservative justices have spent their careers working to kill the Voting Rights Act. They just did it.

There's a bunch of stuff that these models are decent at, useful even. Generating emails that mostly just need to exist to create a paper trail? Spitting out a talk summary for a conference bio? Really competent at both of those. But, uh, Sam isn't gonna pay the bills with that kind of use.

The case for recognition has changed dramatically: it’s no longer driven by people horrified by what they see on their phones every day (bad, ignorant, probably racist); instead it’s driven by people horrified by what they see in their phones every day (good, sensible, includes a couple of Tories)
More than half of Britons now favour financial sanctions like those slapped on prominent Russians over Ukraine, or suspending arms sales. These arguments are now mainstream, cross-party – the veteran Tory MPs Kit Malthouse and Edward Leigh made passionate cases in parliament this week for recognising Palestine – and driven not by the kind of creeping antisemitism Starmer was quite right to confront in his own party, but by what people see every morning, scrolling through their phones.
