In Chicago for University work, I went to Starbucks. The barista noticed my Quite Obvious Accent (mackem, innit) and asked "Are you English, Jon?" On autopilot and with nary an emotion, I responded: "Yeah, sorry"

Fun fact: "Leave" still wins in polls as soon as any of the obvious requirements of joining the EU (I.e. full Schengen, Euro, etc) are included and this has been consistent for years. yougov.com/en-gb/articl...

What do Britons think of Brexit, 10 years since the referendum?
57% of Britons believe the UK was wrong to vote to leave the EU, and 55% want to rejoin... unless the UK can’t keep it’s previous opt-outs

🔴 We asked Tony Blair's think tank about charging businesses £500k for political access at party conferences and why one of its sponsor's logos disappeared after our reporting last week on TBI's alleged cash for access scheme This is what they said

Legal 500 workers win full pay claim after strike action

Wednesday 30 September 2026
Share
Dozens of publishing staff at Legalease, the publishers of legal industry-bible The Legal 500, have won a dramatic victory in their industrial dispute over pay.

Staff who had been on strike for two and a half weeks accepted an offer that fully met their original pay claim of a £2000 pay increase for every worker. This was despite the company originally claiming it would not pay such an increase.

A thing you need to remember when talking about the triple lock and our reactions to it is that spite is a key feature of the British psyche. We've always tolerated things being bad as long as it meant they were worse for someone else.

To be clear, he was appointed in 2025 to a post which has no predecessors, which means that the Labour government whole-cloth invented a new senior civil service position specifically to give to a right-wing press executive. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home...
A former editor of the Sun will take up a senior communications role at the heart of Government.

David Dinsmore, who was editor of the tabloid newspaper between 2013 and 2015, will serve as a senior civil servant responsible for overseeing and improving Government communications.

The Telegraph newspaper, which first reported his appointment, described the role as a new position which it called “permanent secretary for communications”, created after the Prime Minister voiced concerns about Government communications late last year.

The PA news agency understands he will be undertaking a role which replaces Simon Baugh, who was the chief executive of the Government Communications Service.

Sir Keir Starmer is said to have interviewed shortlisted candidates for the role, and to have been impressed with Mr Dinsmore’s understanding of communication challenges, according to the Telegraph.

As an aside, I love the single sentence recognising that people care about what actually happens rather than the mere Vibes: "the plebs might need care about outcome than look messaging" my god, you don't say!?

Have we seen what Sheeran's cousin said about him? Brutal hahaha clearly a long held grudge.
Screenshot from a news site. Jethro Sheeran calls cousin Ed shady and selfish. "Wow at last the truth is being shared publicly! I'm so embarrassed of what my cousin Ed has done. After all this time, the world and his fans have finally realised what a fake he is. He isn't a good soul. I just don't like his music so I can't even say that he's a good performer" Jethro shared on Instagram. Additionally "He is indeed a heartless and manipulative person with evil intentions. I am his first blood cousin, and he betrayed me and even mocked my mental health and the overall concept of mental health." Although Macklemore before stated that Ed had been coerced by stadium owners to get rid of him from the tour, Jethro still thinks Ed alone made that decision, describing his cousin as a shady and cowardly person. "To me he is just a terrible person. And just my opinion based on me being a cousin to him too." he added.

It's funny coz whenever I see the Bundesflagg or the Roude Léiw or the Rout-Wäiss-Blo, I don't feel the same... tension in my stomach and chest as when I see the Union flag or (heaven forbid) the St. George Cross For me, the latter two are symbols of torment and misery.
