"Child least likely to pull Mary's hair or to make a fuss at holding her hand" or potentially "Child who would thwack other Shepherds if given a crook (including a soft/plush one) so give him a toy donkey to 'lead' instead" ...based on 20+ years of junior church nativity observations 😂

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

Reasons that I (working in publishing) mourn the death of print galleys. I mean, RIP several trees per month, but still.

Ah yes, perhaps the most beloved literary trope of all: the classic McMuffin
A screenshot that reads: Moore throws in a Hitchcock-style McMuffin in the shape of a secret tape recording which will reveal just who has been betraying the gangsters.
The problem is that no-one has a machine on which to play it.

Handy poll and thread this. Bringing this out because there has been a lot of misplaced out-of-town criticism of a) the Labour candidate and b) the Green campaign’s choice to go for a “don’t worry! It won’t hurt Andy!” campaign message for much of the campaign.

I had always thought they gave me "magic cream" as a general at the hospital, but it doesn't exist: must have been local so they could get the cannula in easy. I know I wasn't masked (claustrophobia), but seconded, there's a lot of ways to make it easier for kids & families to manage.

I get the appeal of nostalgia, I really do, but I find it specifically funny to get a leaflet from Reform's candidate talking about how when he was in the Met 31 years ago, he would never have dreamed of lawlessness like the kind we now see in Kings Cross.

The tiles in our bathroom have started to come away from the wall, so we have done some pre-emptive removal. Found the original 1930 monochrome tiles straight behind, not even scored. Most of the outer layer are not even adhered to the inner layer, just to each other, the plaster is so dried out..!

When we moved flats, had a big glass desk, only good for “your living room is also your study and you want a stylish desk”. Needed the hinges taking off the door to go. 3 flights of steps. Too big for lift. Tried giving it away free. Nothing but crazies and idiots. £10. Went immediately.

The sentence for detonating a bomb a few metres from houses on a suburban residential road in the early evening seems entirely reasonable. It was sheer luck that nobody was injured or worse. Perhaps Sarah should explain what sentence this terrorist should have received?

Toi toi! Both my husband and I are 2 generations too distant, ie even our parents can't get it. Although my Grandad spent his babyhood to age 6 in Ireland (his early memories included GIs being landed at Buncrana and the WW1 armistice ship siren salutes from Derry-Londonderry), he wasn't born there.

I'm not sure it has sunk in for people just how close we came to a hundred-plus Israelis crashing into the Jordanian desert in a giant fireball. Which, aside from being horrible in itself, would most likely have meant a very bad time for a lot of other people in the Middle East.

If you feed an LLM prompts generated by the responses from another LLM and simply leave it for days at a time in an endless loop, *of course* things like this will happen. Throwing up your hands and going "oh, look what the AI did!" is obfuscation. YOU did it, OpenAI.

my legit goal with the Untitled History Podcast is to replicate what I had as a kid the first time I discovered In Our Time on the radio. I want people to listen WITHOUT caring about what the topic is. To feel that magic, and thrill, of just trusting it will be interesting. And learning cool stuff.
