The sentence for detonating a bomb a few metres from houses on a suburban residential road in the early evening seems entirely reasonable. It was sheer luck that nobody was injured or worse. Perhaps Sarah should explain what sentence this terrorist should have received?

Well, I thought that was an excellent speech and lived up to the conference slogan of "Hope Again". The major changes - social care, electoral reform and Europe - are kicked down the road a little towards the next General Election, but I think that's probably unavoidable from where we are.

Most striking of all is that this is explicitly a very *pro-politics* speech, a direct rebuttal to the anti-politics that is so widespread. And rightly so: politics can change things, it is an admirable thing to choose to engage in and a duty for us all to step forward and pursue.
