Look, it's one thing to believe in "sovereign nations" and "borders" as a child, but eventually you're supposed to grow up and become an anarchist.

Antebellum politics is fascinating, the South kept getting policy concessions and whipped themselves up into a paranoid rage anyway, essentially because they couldn't stand being culturally judged for having slaves

I broadly agree that the technology is here to stay so leftists have to adapt it to their goals. I wish there was more engagement with why people actually hate it though

I see some leftists 'shadow boxing reality' but not many. Most hate AI because it's a power multiplier for authoritarians and is making art/culture shittier. Yet AI advocates on the left keep saying people don't like it because they don't understand it or are afraid it will take their job.

Do AI people know how to defend their tech without implying that anyone who doesn't like it is an illiterate God-fearing peasant? No one wants to fight a war with their imagination. Just straw man after straw man

Every single senator has killed more people than any random guy from your city doing 25 to life, they just get to do it in a way we have all agreed makes it not real for some reason. We're governed by serial killers!! www.welcometohellworld.com/the-rube-gol...
No matter what you say about a senator, no matter how rude it is, it will never match the violence they very calmly and cordially enact on millions of people as a matter of course. Sinema’s goofy thumbs down was a distraction, but it’s not really the salient issue here. It’s her and her colleagues' indifference to so many of our lives.

Every single senator has killed more people than any random guy from your city doing 25 to life, they just get to do it in a way we have all agreed makes it not real for some reason. We're governed by serial killers!!

Here’s an honest question: Who do you think has been the cause of more deaths, Joe Manchin, or Ted Bundy?

If you're counting on "representatives" to fix things then you're literally hoping the ruling class builds a just society for you. Unfortunately it's going to take so much more than empowering rulers through elections

if a position of authority can be misused in this way, that position of authority should not exist. It's clearly not enough to simply change who is in that position, no more than praying that the next king be better than the last.

"There are valid concerns and criticisms to be had about immigration." No there aren't. Fuck you. Don't concede that absurd shit. Abolish every border. Let hundreds of millions in. Why are you justifying violence to keep folks out? Why are you pretending like nations aren't moral atrocities?

Looks like more than one person involved in the murders of Pretti and Good were the "best trained" that DHS has to offer. And at least two are actual gun trainers themselves. So when someone says DHS needs "better training", don't debate. Just slap them. More training just means more lethal.

This is right except the charismatic leader part, which is outdated because it was a vulnerability. When it's leaderless and horizontal they can't kill/jail/demonize one person and damage the whole resistance, so it's stronger

we don't have a representative government and we never did. the sooner people accept this the sooner we can figure out what to do about it, but pretending that the ceremony of an election means we somehow control our rulers is a farcical delusion that allows them to rule us in the first place

The reason that "respectable" and "intellectual" conservative and centrist pundits have spent the last decade arguing that social pressure and public opinion are morally equivalent to state coercion is to lay the groundwork for justifying the latter.

this is a letter to the editor from a high school track runner who came in second to a trans girl in a race. her state house rep in maine started talking about it. so she wrote this: www.pressherald.com/2025/05/14/r...
Rep. Laurel Libby, R-Auburn, recently used my second-place finish in the 1,600-meter run, and that of my teammate in the 800-meter run, to malign Soren Stark-Chessa, the trans-identified athlete who finished first.

One of the reasons I chose to run cross-country and track is the community: Teammates cheering each other on, athletes from different schools coming together, and the fact that personal improvement is valued as much as, if not more than, the place we finish.

Last Friday, I ran the fastest 1,600-meter race I have ever run in middle school or high school track and earned varsity status by my school’s standards. I am extremely proud of the effort I put into the race and the time that I achieved. The fact that someone else finished in front of me didn’t diminish the happiness I felt after finishing that race. I don’t feel like first place was taken from me. Instead, I feel like a happy day was turned ugly by a bully who is using children to make political points.

We are all just kids trying to make our way through high school. Participating in sports is the highlight of high school for some kids. No one was harmed by Soren’s participation in the girls’ track meet, but we are all harmed by the hateful rhetoric of bullies, like Rep. Libby, who want to take sports away from some kids just because of who they are.
