This week is a case study in how comfortable most people are with some women being raped as long as they aren’t the women they personally like or imagine all the women they know to be. A lot of folks also effectively want some “bad” women to be raped as if that’s will protect the “good” women.

We live in a society that punishes people who are assaulted. We question them, we shame them, we disbelieve them. Many survivors instinctively do that societal work for us. Survivors question themselves, they shame themselves, they don't believe their own version of events. We've trained them!

I am really begging people to not assume an increase in sexual assault at Cornell is Cornell specific or rich kids specific or fraternity specific. Some things make it worse but high incidences of rape and/or an increase in rape and rape culture is likely an across the board thing.
