New paper from former @holmeslab-bhi.bsky.social post-doc @sidchop.bsky.social. In first-episode psychosis, antipsychotic-naive patients on placebo showed widespread cortical thinning over 12mo. However, patients on antipsychotics did not. Thinning appears to be illness- not drug-driven.

Synaptic loss in schizophrenia isn't random. New PET imaging work from our group, led by @sidchop.bsky.social, shows it's left-lateralized, follows neurochemical gradients, and may propagate outward from inferior frontal cortex through axonal networks, independent of MRI grey matter changes

For me, this work is a classic @ohbmofficial.bsky.social story: In 2023 I wasn't working with @bttyeo.bsky.social but I overheard him at his poster pointing to some accuracy curves saying "I don't why they have this particular shape". That kicked off the collab that led to these results.
