Not the usual fare for the Financial Post. I make the case why I think we *are* in a productivity crisis, one that has been predicted for over 40 years; but not for the reasons we thought. And the fix won't come from where we thought either.

Screenshot of a video from Evan Solomon with a tweet overlayed. The post says: Canadians deserve more control over their personal information.

That’s why the Protecting Privacy and Consumer Data Act would introduce a Right to Deletion, giving Canadians greater control over their data and strengthening privacy rights in the digital age.

We urge @lfairclough.bsky.social make proportional representation a central part of her campaign so the Ontario Liberals no longer finish a distant third despite earning a strong second place in vote share.
An infographic titled Ontario votes 2025 illustrates the disparity between voter intention and legislative results by comparing two pie charts. The first chart, labeled How we voted (popular vote), shows the PC party at 43%, the Liberals at 29.9%, the NDP at 18.6%, the Greens at 4.8%, and other parties at 3.8%. The second chart, labeled What we got (seats), displays a significantly different outcome where the PC party receives 64.5% of seats, followed by the NDP at 21.8%, the Liberals at 11.3%, the Greens at 1.6%, and others at 0.8%. This visual data demonstrates that while the Liberals secured the second highest share of the popular vote, they ended up with the third highest number of seats.

Hey.

This is a message out there to all of you who, in trying to create a tribute to our children, choose to use AI.

When you feed these images into AI, you're feeding their data set. That means they will now use little pieces of Abel and Maya and the others the next time someone asks for the image of a 12 year old.

While most companies are trying their best, some of them aren't; a few weeks back, Grok was freely and cheerily offering up images of naked, underage children. This is horrifying.

I know that some people out there are trying to create clickbait images, but not you. You're trying to show your respect and love, but could we ask you do it in a different way? There are actual provided images of most of the victims out there; sharing those is equally as powerful and less dicey, morally. The RCMP even created a composite for you.

Thanks.

Once upon a time, 37% was enough to win everything. So the promise of proportional representation was tossed aside. Then the same system delivered the opposite result: zero seats and a resignation. The lesson is simple. Stop gambling. Choose proportional representation.
In 2018, Legault promised proportional representation in a deal with the Parti Québécois and Québec solidaire. He broke that promise after winning a majority with just 37% of the vote. Now, under the same first-past-the-post rules, polling suggests his party could win zero seats, forcing his resignation. Montreal | News Legault resigns as Quebec premier amid unfavourable polls, controversy By Erika Morris Updated: January 14, 2026 at 3:46PM EST Published: January 14, 2026 at 10:44AM EST The lesson is simple: the system that gives you everything with 37% can take everything away just as fast. Stop gambling on political whiplash. Commit to proportional representation. When governments can win power with 30% to 40% of the vote, long term planning suffers. Big promises get torn up after every election. Proportional representation rewards policies that can survive change because they are backed by a real majority.
Graphic with a soft sky background and a faint image of Canada’s Parliament buildings. Title text reads: “The Policy Whiplash of FIRST-PAST-THE-POST”. A subheading says: “Changes in government”. A brown zigzag line with dots shows repeated ups and downs labeled, from left to right: “New direction”, “Reversals”, “Short-term fixes”, “Cancelled again”, and “Reset again”. Below a dashed line, text reads: “Winner-take-all elections bounce us between parties with 30% to 40% support that rewrite policy.” Near the bottom, bold underlined text reads: “Proportional representation”, followed by: “requires majority support, producing continuity instead of constant reversals.” A dark bar at the bottom says: “Learn more at fairvote.ca”.
