Living with #LongCovid + caring for patients? @shh-uk.bsky.social runs free peer support groups. 🗓️ On Thursday 1st October at 7pm, I'll be sharing short, practical nervous-system regulating tools to fit into a busy clinical day. 📧 To get your joining link, email supportgroup@ssh-uk.org #MedSky
A deep blue banner reads "Long Covid Support Groups for Healthcare Workers." Large serif text in navy and gold says "As a healthcare worker you don't have to face Long COVID alone." Details below: 1st October 2026, 7:00 pm. "We'll explore regulating strategies for busy healthcare workers with Long COVID." A gold label names Sheren Gaulbert as Guest Speaker. To join, email supportgroup@ssh-uk.org. In the bottom right corner, framed by a gold circular border, Sheren, a South Indian woman with shoulder-length blonde and brown curly hair, smiles warmly at the camera, wearing large amber earrings.
Logos for Supporting Healthcare Heroes UK and Sheren dot Health are shown at the top.

Covid is a mass disabling event. Just because you had it and were “fine” doesn’t mean there isn’t silent damage in your body. Multiple infections increase the risk of long covid … you never know which one could leave you disabled. This is why we mask. Why we clean the air.

Just a reminder (many seem to need it): A failed Paxlovid trial in #LongCOVID does not erase the validity of all the careful work demonstrating SARS-CoV-2 persistence LC, it just shows us that drugs that target acute infection don’t always work on chronic infection. That’s it.

When do infections lead to long COVID? Scientists close in on triggers and treatments for post-viral syndromes
In 2004, Amy Proal got an infection that changed her life. “I was in my pre-med, last year of college, and totally tanked,” she says. “No one could tell me what it was, everybody said my blood work was fine — sent to a psychiatrist, the usual story.” She started reading papers from her sickbed and soon realized that she wasn’t the only one with unexplained symptoms that lingered after an infection. A year later, she was diagnosed with ME/CFS (myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome). She managed to improve her symptoms with antivirals and other drugs, and went on to do a PhD in microbiology, studying the lasting consequences of pathogens. In 2018, she co-founded PolyBio, a foundation in Medford, Massachusetts, that advances research on infection-associated chronic illnesses. “Then,” Proal says, “COVID hit.” COVID-19 killed millions of people, and left millions of others with lingering health problems caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The chronic condition became known as long COVID. A 2024 study estimated that 400 million people around the world have long COVID1, with an annual economic burden of around US$1 trillion. What causes long COVID? Case builds for rogue antibodies The condition’s existence prompted a surge of interest in...

You're Not Imagining It: Long COVID, ME & Invisible Illnesses in South Asian Communities
Invisible illnesses can be some of the hardest conditions to live with—not only because of the symptoms, but because so many people struggle to be believed. In this South Asian Heritage Month webinar, host Asma Younus is joined by leading Long COVID specialists **Dr Binita Kane** and **Dr Sanjay Gupta** to explore Long COVID, ME/CFS, POTS and other invisible illnesses, with a particular focus on the experiences of South Asian communities. Together they discuss: * What Long COVID actually is—and why it's more than one condition. * Why many patients receive normal test results despite experiencing debilitating symptoms. * The health inequalities affecting South Asian communities. * The importance of listening to patients and recognising invisible illness. * Practical advice on diagnosis, symptom management and where to seek support. * The latest thinking on treatment, recovery and holistic care. Whether you're living with persistent symptoms, supporting a loved one, or simply want to better understand these conditions, this conversation offers expert insight, practical guidance and, above all, reassurance that your experiences matter. Nobody should have to fight to be believed.
