“A pathogen invades, sticks around, and causes trouble.” Sometimes the most important scientific questions can be summarized very simply. Excellent Smithsonian piece on #LongCovid, viral persistence, and the scientists still working to understand what SARS-CoV-2 can leave behind.

Recent photo at the NHS. Over 6 years into #COVID, and we still have “wash your hands” under “AIRBORNE PRECAUTIONS.” We are failing hard to communicate one of the most basic lessons of this pandemic: Airborne means spread through the AIR. Clean air is infection control. #Airborne #PublicHealth #NHS

Covid is not over just because people got tired of hearing about it. #SARSCoV2 is still circulating, still being detected in the air, and still causing chronic diseases like #LongCovid Another reminder that the air we share is part of public health infrastructure. Clean air is public health.

Public health is one of those things people only notice when it stops working. Inspections feel invisible when they prevent outbreaks. Cut them, and people get sick. It really is that simple.

During the pandemic I faced a lot of attacks for my scientific fact-sharing and support of vaccines. I had to block 8,000 X accounts. The interesting thing was they were almost entirely from the far right. So I didn't find it a great coincidence that these 3 CPC MP's also fought against vaccines.

I also find it ironic billionaires chasing longevity while overlooking something as basic as clean air, despite evidence that multiple pathogens accelerate dementia and other neurodegenerative processes. Living longer is great. But what’s the point if your brain doesn’t come along for the ride?

COVID helped fuel the rise of the far right globally. The uncertainty, grief, anger, and fear made for fertile ground for conspiracist thinking and right-wing indoctrination. Is it one of many drivers? Yes. But it’s an important factor nonetheless—and one that is too often overlooked and unexamined

Important review about #POTS from my colleague @satishraj.bsky.social, who is part of our @islc-pais.bsky.social society and is presenting at our meeting this Friday. #LongCovid
Text reads: Long COVID Autonomic Problems: POTS & IOH
This session explores autonomic dysfunction in Long COVID, with a focus on how these disorders evolve over time. Dr. Raj will discuss the diagnosis of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) and initial orthostatic hypotension (IOH), review findings from formal autonomic testing, and provide practical insights into current management strategies for these frequently overlooked conditions.

One more nail in the coffin of the "it's just deconditioning" hypothesis. 60 days of strict bed rest ≠ #LongCOVID or #MECFS. Rob's group shows that while exercise capacity may be similarly reduced, the underlying skeletal muscle biology is VERY different. Time to move beyond outdated assumptions.
