Anyone got ScienceCast to work with bioRxiv preprint? The summary remains blank and trying to get it done manually only generates error!

Recognition of pathogenic bacteria by intestinal stem cells promotes adult Drosophila midgut regeneration
Bacteria infecting the intestinal epithelium are recognized by epithelial and immune cells, however the role of intestinal stem cells (ISCs) remains unclear. This study shows that adult Drosophila mid...

Project was completed by Xuedou Lu that will defend her MSc this month. She established that DJ694 ovaries are normal and that ETDP function is needed both during development and adulthood.

Project was revived by Taylor Barwell PhD (2023) and she tested the effect of EDTP on muscles polyglutamine aggregates.

This work was initiated over 25 yrs ago by Scott Edelman MSc thesis (2005). Then the lab never got any funding since 2009.

Laurent Seroude 🪰🇨🇦🇫🇷 @seroude.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
Ectopic expression in the eye reduces the amount of aggregates but EDTP overexpression in muscles has no detectable effect on the accumulation or toxicity of two different kinds of polyglutamine aggregates.
000
Laurent Seroude 🪰🇨🇦🇫🇷 @seroude.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
Although it has been reported that EDTP can influence the accumulation of polyglutamine aggregates, we did not find evidence in its native tissue.
000
Laurent Seroude 🪰🇨🇦🇫🇷 @seroude.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
EDTP is required during both development and adulthood to support normal fertility, with expression restricted to either stage alone being insufficient.

Laurent Seroude 🪰🇨🇦🇫🇷 @seroude.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
The structure of the muscle, myofibril, and sarcomere appears normal in homozygous DJ694. DJ694 females have morphologically normal ovaries, implicating a functional rather than structural impairment.
010
Laurent Seroude 🪰🇨🇦🇫🇷 @seroude.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
The fertilityand longevity phenotypes are recessive and can be fully rescued by three independent UAS-EDTP insertions. Expression of UAS-EDTP into animals with wildtype phenotypes does not affect female fertility or lifespan.
000
Laurent Seroude 🪰🇨🇦🇫🇷 @seroude.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
EDTP transcript levels are reduced in DJ694, and homozygous flies exhibit reduced reproduction and shortened lifespan in both sexes.

In Drosophila, changing the expression of a small set of cell-surface proteins in just one type of olfactory neuron rewires its connections almost entirely to a new postsynaptic partner neuron type, altering the fly’s odour response and courtship behaviour.
