People forget that J6 was successful. Everyone who participated was let out of jail and the guy who perpetrated it is President again. There were no consequences. They have plenty of incentive to do a much bigger and worse version.

Three panel comic. Panel 1: on the set of the Jerry Springer show, a man sits in a chair. Jerry signals off-stage and says, “we have with us: your ancestor who crawled out of the ocean 375 million years ago!” Panel 2: the live studio audience is booing. Panel 3: security attempts to break up a fight between the man on stage, and his ancestor, a tiktaalik.

It's both terribly predictable & completely frustrating that so many men can't be bothered to have any empathy for women until they have a daughter. Like their wives & female blood relatives don't matter. (Which for many, they somehow actually don't.)

Absent major institutional reforms that turn us into a multiparty democracy, totally transform SCOTUS, & significantly rein in the imperial presidency, this is the <best case> scenario of what is going to happen. Other, more permanent authoritarian scenarios are also possible.

I'm not a "watch the same movie multiple times" person but my little sister is and she had a Grease phase. So probably Grease? I'm too old for any of the Disney Renaissance movies to count. Otherwise, for me specifically it's probably Rocky IV, I think.

Exactly. This is such a lie. Email had a purpose. The internet had a purpose. Search had a purpose. Everybody loved Silicon Valley in the 90s because they made shit that did what it promised. Now 3 guys who never made SHIT have ALL the money in SV. They're scam artists. Not engineers.

An anti corruption movement is the bare minimum here. If you don't cut out the tumors and burn the flesh that they rooted from, they'll be back in 5 years, 10 years - and worse. Total annihilation of the cancer is the only answer, and there can be no safe harbor for that cancer.

“how do we win back trump voters in 2026” we don’t. we create an environment where admitting to voting for trump is so socially embarrassing as to render them completely inert. you don’t “win back” trump voters. you demoralize them into staying home. you make it a dunce cap

Again, <only Republicans> ever get to talk like this. If a single municipal level Democrat ever did, it would be a national outrage &spark a wave of “civility” discourse, & op-eds about how Dems must Respect Real Folkz & talk across difference. Democracy is incompatible with this double standard.

I understand why they're doing this, but fuck them. These mayors can't guarantee the safety of their own citizens from ICE, and they sure as hell can't guarantee the safety of Canadian visitors. Also, North Dakota, where 2/3 of voters voted for Trump, wants foreigners to come back? Fuck them twice.

IDK what it's like to live that life. I'm sure there's a lot of "go along to get along", and we're only 90 minutes from where Matthew Shepard was killed. But gleefully trying to identify yourself as one of the "good ones" to people who want you dead next was gross. I think about those folks a lot.

Sometimes I think about the handful of pro-Trump gay folks in their 20's I used to work with. They'd post things like "I'm gay, not retarded", post that they want the mean tweets if it means cheap gas, and on one occasion told me that they don't need protection because they're already equal.

The GOP cut funding to the IRS because *audits work* and they fundamentally don't believe rich people should have to play by the rules.
Line chart titled "Revenue per audit," subtitled "In-person audits, 2010-2014." It plots average revenue and average cost per audit by taxpayer income percentile, poorer to richer, from the 0–5th percentile to the top 0.1%. Source: Boning et al. 2023, "A Welfare Analysis of Tax Audits Across the Income Distribution."

Across the bottom half of the income distribution, revenue and cost track closely, both around $3,000–$6,000 per audit. Above the median, revenue pulls ahead of cost: about $10,000 vs. $5,000 near the 90th percentile, and about $17,000 vs. $8,000 at the 95th–99th. At the top, revenue jumps to about $31,000 for the 99–99.9th percentile and about $90,000 for the top 0.1%.
