Star Trek Deep Space Nine scene. A PADD is shown up close held by a pair of hands. (Kind of looks like an old palm pilot and if you're not old this will mean nothing to you)
The beautiful LCARS user interface is displaying the text, "GO AWAY."

"If you want to know who took all of your money, it's the people with all of the money." I keep thinking about this post and how it's one of the best, most succinct messages Democrats could use in 2026 campaigns.

Maybe we could do a new animated Star Trek show that follows the adventures of, oh, I dunno, a group of lieutenant junior officers in Starfleet, maybe, like, five of them, I dunno, just spitballing ideas here

One of the quickest ways to earn my vote is for a candidate to say they want Lina Khan for Attorney General. Endless posts I could quote for this thought but this just happened to be the one this hour.

Society is a construct. You can just ask someone to do a ska cover of Faith of the Heart and they'll say "$300 please" and you give it to them and then you have it. Everyone, give @skatunenetwork.bsky.social your money. They deserve it.

I really don't think someone should be called a "free speech advocate" if they spent exactly zero effort defending people with positions they disagreed with.

I got a flu booster today and it made me reflect on the sense of national accomplishment I felt when I drove to a public facility, waited in my car until my number was called on an app, and got my first covid jab. It's fucked the right gets to erase what a moment of technological liberation that was

Hey uh I have no creative power in Star Trek anymore so this means nothing, but I 100% object to the head of the franchise Alex Kurtzman justifying a Space C.I.A. for the Federation to exist.
A transcript from an interview with Alex Kurtzman on why Section 31 is needed for the dream of the Federation: "So ultimately, I feel like what we’re saying is that in order for Starfleet and that beautiful vision that Roddenberry had of this optimistic utopia, in order for that vision to exist, in order for the light to exist, you need people who operate in the shadows."

Another thing I made this year: Real and implied birds.
A six-panel cartoon titled "real and implied birds". In the two panels in the top row, there's a rough legged-hawk sailing through the sky, next to a smooth legged hawk, which has smooth human legs. In the second row, there's a great-crested flycatcher looking dapper, next to an ok-crested flycatcher that has just a slightly less nice crest. In the third row, there's a mountain chickadee standing up on stones, next to a valley chickadee peeking out from a dip between stones. In the fourth row, there's a least bittern standing in some reeds, next to a most bittern that is enormous and stomping through a city, with people running in fear, helicopters overhead, and an overturned car on fire.

2 years and 2 days after Kartik Saini died on an unprotected portion of the Yonge St bike lanes. Lanes that I take multiple times a week. If these get removed, I'm going to be significantly less safe as I try to get around the city. This sucks. www.thestar.com/politics/pro...
Ghost Bike memorial for Kartik Saini, many flowers are arranged and a sign with his name, "Sheridan College Student" and "November 23, 2022"

It's pretty funny that the electoral meta in Canada has just standardized as "give people free money a couple months before the election":
News story titles "Ford government plans $200 rebate cheques as possible early election looms: source" with a picture of Doug Ford, incredibly red-faced (just not lookin good at all my boy) shot from a very low angle.News story headlined "Trudeau government to send $250 cheques to most people, slash GST on some goods" with a picture of Trudeau peeking out from behind a shelf of groceries.

TPS: Waaa! our budget is being increased in a time of a fiscal disaster, but not by ENOUGH! 😡😢 Also TPS: Sure there's a truck with illegal window tint sitting in the the intersection trying to left turn when there's bright light up no-turn signals, holding up a honking tram, but idk, whatevs 😒
Tweet from @TorontoPolice with the text "The police portion of the @cityoftoronto
budget has shrunk from 11% to 9%, while calls for service are up 18% & the population is growing exponentially. Now is not the time to reduce the @tpsboard
approved increase of 1.7% to the police service’s budget.

Toronto Driver Understand This Sign Challenge: [impossible]
A traffic sign commonly seen in Toronto on streets with bike lanes. It indicates that right turning cars should yield to bike traffic. Suffice it to say, cars follow this rule inconsistently in my experience....

I never would have thought a couple years ago that I'd be biking in -14C in Toronto. The funny thing is that once I'm properly geared up, I'm actually quite comfy, and I was happy to do 2 hours of riding. Didn't even notice the moustache-cicle until i was on my way home! #BikeTO
Me in winter biking gear stopped outside High Park. There's one enormous icicle hanging from my moustache.

Note to Toronto drivers: If I can't tell if you're waving me through a stop sign or not, it's probably because of your illegally tinted windows. Also, don't do that. Just go when it's your turn.

Me and several hundred besties searching for the one cyclist who used the new Bloor West bike lanes this year, but we couldn't find them. Any clues Premier Ford? Is the one cyclist in the room with you right now?

Eglinton Park was 'revitalized' this summer, but we've already got sections all over the park that are torn up by heavy tires. The big trucks of Toronto Parks and 311 are just creating more problems as they do their work! Cargo bikes could be a very useful tool for many of their tasks instead!
Muddy patch with tire tracks where Toronto Parks vehicles turn off of the paved footpath and into the grass.A Toronto 311 pickup truck driving along the paved footpath. 5 seconds previously, it had been idling on the park grass (not even where I took the other picture)

Toronto....literally just put the sign on the other side of the bike lane!!! It's already designated as a place for no one to be, and you don't have to take away half of a sidewalk!!!
Picture of Bloor Street in Toronto. A construction sign warning cars about upcoming construction occupies more than half of the sidewalk. Meanwhile there's a perfect spot for it to exist behind a parallel parking spot on the other side of the bike lane.
