The acronym is doing a lot of work in that headline. Written out, the rich guy sounds psychotic. "Low traffic neighborhoods made me flee Britain, says millionaire."

Portland is on Amazon’s target list for drone delivery. This would be a noise pollution disaster, horrific for our birds, and just another way this megacorp seeks to infect our lives. It’s a hell no from me. (🎁🔗) www.oregonlive.com/retail/2026/...

Yes. I think the consensus among US elite pundits and senior politicians that the way to protect liberal democracy is *not* to punish elite figures who violate its rules is wrong. A norm starting at least with the Watergate pardon. The opposite is true. You need to enforce the law and Constitution.

And here's how many people would fit on the same street if they were all driving cars instead of riding bikes... #CarsRuinCities
A picture of a Parisian street with a bike lane full of people biking, waiting in a long line at a stop. A red box is drawn around the first 8ish people, who only occupy the footprint of about 1 (large American) car when using bikes. It's a fraction of the total capacity of the bike lane—dozens of other people riding bikes are waiting behind them.

I will say that this is an interesting evolution in the bikelash. First it was that things like bike lanes weren't necessary because no one would use them. Now it's that all the people who use them won't live here long enough.

MAGA isn't drawn to Trump because he's smart or competent. They're drawn to him because he tells uneducated, insecure, angry people that their stupidity and ignorance is a strength...They don't want leadership. They want validation for being ignorant. And Trump gives it to them every single day.

For the unfamiliar, Hains Point is is a picturesque waterfront park where residents cycle, jog, fish, or just hang out (years ago, I taught someone to ride a bike there). Now Trump wants to convert it into an expansive golf course. It's infuriating what he is doing to this city.

Nah, the amount of money that Americans voluntarily spend on cars is just a cultural problem. In every market in the US, you can buy a <15 year-old Corolla that that will run for decades for <$10,000. The solution is more people saying "buying new luxury cars is stupid," not subsidized car loans.

It would be nice if respected economists like Kenneth Rogoff stopped saying things that are untrue. "Academic economists" and "Washington" are not why US debt accumulated unchecked. The cause, which Rogoff knows but is lying about to make rich people feel warm and fuzzy, is "Republican policies."
Harvard University economist Kenneth Rogoff warned that the US government’s worsening fiscal plight is likely to go unaddressed until a major crisis shocks voters and spurs them to demand a change.

US debt accumulated unchecked for years because of a “near-religious” conviction among academic economists that interest rates would fall indefinitely, Rogoff said Friday in a Bloomberg Television interview. But, he added, political leaders failed to adjust even as rates bounced off lows and kept climbing.

“Interest rates have reversed, but Washington hasn’t,” said Rogoff, a former chief economist for the International Monetary Fund who was in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, to address the annual symposium held by the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.
