The safeguarding lead at Ellis' nursery once came out at pickup to talk to me. "Ellis has been talking about Colin. He says he shouts loudly, threatens to kill people, and he and Ellis play with guns in the garden." I explained Colin was a Dalek. There was a pause. "Is he a real Dalek?" #DoctorWho

FFS. While my maths is pretty bad, that takes an 18-25yr old down to £60 a week if they -through no fault of their own - in a world of ever decreasing opportunities - can't find a job in the set time. And if you're not paying fares to GET them to daily job centre attendance - even less...

Roughly 30 years ago my then specialist would ask me to talk to his trainee doctors about being a patient with ME/CFS and fill in just some of the many gaps in their training. And I find it is so confounding that nothing has substantially changed since then.

Happy Gorbals Vampire Day (that I’ve just made up) to all who celebrate 🦇
A poster for the Citizens Theatre, Glasgow. There’s a comic book-style illustration of a group of children in 1950s-style school uniforms, with shorts. They’re scowling, facing outwards, defensively, and are holding sharpened sticks. Behind them is a moonlit church.

Far-right activist Daniel Thomas slashes dinghy with blade while rescue worker onboard
Thomas called followers to disrupt arrival of asylum seekers in Gosport, but Border Force instead transported them to Dover Charities have condemned footage of far-right activist Daniel Thomas using a blade to slash an inflatable dinghy in the Channel while a rescue worker was onboard, in a further escalation of organised anti-immigration protest. Hundreds of protesters gathered in the early evening at Gosport in Hampshire, aiming to disrupt the planned disembarkation of asylum seekers, but the Border Force vessels carrying them landed instead in Dover. Pay rent, eat or keep warm? Growing numbers face hard choices as housing benefit gap grows
Wirral mother among renters turning to food banks as gap between a two-bed and housing benefit hits £158 a month – rising to as much as £324 in London Do you prioritise paying the rent, putting food on the table or keeping the house warm in winter? In practice, says Laura Braddock, a single mum from Wirral, Merseyside, you always pay the rent first and improvise the rest. “If I’ve got a roof over our head, then everything else I can muddle through.” The pressing problem for Braddock, 39, is that muddling through is getting harder. The monthly rent for her two-bedroom flat far outstrips the local housing allowance (LHA) she receives – and the gap may widen. Continue reading...
