Our books 2024, a🧵: we started off with `To Light The Trails – Poems By Women In A Violent World" My fabulous co-editors were Mo Schoenfeld @suefinch.bsky.social Giovanna MacKenna @sarahsouthwest.bsky.social Róisín Ní Neachtain. In the first few months, all proceeds from this book went to UNRWA,
Cover of To Light The Trails, Poems By Women In a Violent World. On the right, the front cover shows a vibrant 3-d- sun made out of cardboard, with yellow, red, gold, pink, white. On the left is a quote: The poems in To Light the Trails force us
to look, empowering the women and girls
featured in the pieces through the act
of witness. The voices of these women
refuse to be silenced, and from diverse
perspectives, we hear experiences of
escaping controlling behaviour, of living
in fear, of suffering assaults, of not being
believed, and of rising up and reclaiming
the narrative. The poems come together
to form a powerful and immensely
readable testimony to freedom and
resistance.

Book no. 2 was the second book by Sarah Connor @sarahsouthwest.bsky.social with Sídhe Press, `Always Fire`. This book was co-edited by Sarah herself and by @suefinch.bsky.social. @merrildsmith.bsky.social wrote the blurb & Róisín gifted us her beautiful artwork for the cover. The proceeds
Cover of Always Fire by Sarah Connor, with excerpts from an abstract painting by Róisín Ní Neachtain in red, blue, white, beige, yellow, black On the right is a quote:In her new collection, Always Fire, Sarah Connor
once again dances between bird-enchantment,
the realization of and reckoning with mortality,
and the joy and comfort found in the day-
to-day business of living. These are potent,
personal poems that speak to our humanity
and connection to the natural world around us.
Read Always Fire. Then read it again--because
these poems sneak up on you, gently grazing
your skin and grasping your heart.

~Sarah Connor from The Poet Spells Her Name (2023) #poetry
A poem in a book, the page curved, distorting the words slightly. The rounded edge of a flat white petal peeps the top margin, like a ghost dog's tongue.

Text:
My poems are shrinking

Soon I will write a poem
that's a single word
ice
milk
cloud
leave you to do the work,
with your map of dreams and memories, your tales heard once,
your stories that have sunk into the bone
blade
flame
gull

FOX

Deciduous snow. Time tissue
perforated along every edge. Lust

lightens below freezing. The trail
routinely followed, throughout her absence

nearly tactile. I withdraw. That part of me,
capable of survival. Licking the killing wound.

A new poem posted today for Top Tweet Tuesday, a platform for imagist poetry hosted by @blackboughpoetry.bsky.social over on X. 'In Polzeath, I’d split my body for him' Thought I'd share it here too. Thank you for reading 🙏🤍 #poetrycommunity #writingcommunity #poetry #imagist

In Polzeath, I’d split my body for him

where frescoes of Skyrim
feign fortune & frieze—

invite frost-feathers of misflight.
Waiting for faith to blow warm,

the way the will is annexed
to heather & shore-sworn inheritance.

Outlands sculpt a skull.
What solemns its sockets?

Unbirded coves the Atlantic
tongues deep for violet relief.

Eves steep with salt & old language.
A woman unearthing her urn

to hold a whole tidal legacy.
To love his ruinscape, to be hooked

at such angle of pleasure—
his bright aspect a debt worth owing.

                                              Vikki C.

The wine opener was a silver person
who could raise her arms in despair.ARTIFACT AVE

When you see my death, will you tell me?
Hold the envelope up
to the light? Middle school, beautiful
anger, tiny wind in the mouth
of a rabbit. Three vultures on the roof

one with a foot
in the chimney. The ash
of little answers
I brush out in the spring
like your hair

For #smallpoemsunday on our downundermonday - a fav wee quiet beauty from Andrea Cohen, & one from me - for the light-crawled (with thx to Black Bough Poetry for the latter's silvery home)
Ghosting

How cavalier
people are―
with language
and with silence.
Any ghost will
tell you―
the last thing
we mean
to do
is leave you.Spring, loading

Weal of daylight-hill-split still
by winter's fading whip. What follows
the crack? A tunnelled clap of strange unsound: small prey holding sniff, pillars of nerve-beat candling in the grass. Blink and the leapt sun melts a hundred shadows burrowed. Every season maintains its weapon, hunts for keeps-every skin crawled by light, a temporary win.

'We invite you, offering our words as a way' ~Khawla Badwan & Alison Phipps Keep Telling Of Gaza (Sídhe Press, 2024) Order: amzn.eu/d/4bNXgTa #poetry
The front cover of a poetry collection from Sídhe Press, 'Keep Telling Of Gaza', by Khawla Badwan and Alison Phipps. The cover art is a painting by Imad Abu Shtayyah, of a woman in an orange/red robe/dress and white headscarf, her face turned away from the viewer, rising from the rubble of buildings. The broken buildings comprise the lower half of her body to heart level, as if part of her raiment.
