MENTAL TALE-APATHY

some come to poetry for its
perpetual motion for its buxom beauty
for the truvia of its mind-control searching
for the hint or the hinderances of freedom
for the certainty of unbreakable insight

some for mutually assured self-destruction
for love's quantum trivia / a thesaurus of old gods
burned at the stake with the bones of grief
as its kindling for who but the spiritually ill
come with sorrows reeking to the poetry reading
searching for solace in the written grift
of solidarity & kindness? some.

but in truth: there's no begging in poetry-

angels & devils unravel the planet as your favorite
slave spits in your tea or you swallow
your tongue & abandon the antidote

either way:

whether you bleed out beneath a raptured moon
or with the saliva of abolition on your avocado toast
you're gonna eat this fucking poem and
you’re gonna learn to fucking like it.
