October on the calendars brings: #LookThere Ronnie in autumn leaves in Betws-y-Coed #ElasticBandPhotos ' Leaf Under Matryoshka Moon': A discarded elastic band in the gutter makes the shape of a matryoshka doll. A leaf adds interest.

This poem is having an outing today. It's TopTweetTuesday AND I found my first conker of the season at the weekend in someone else's town.
Conker
You slip out smooth;
your emergence perfect gloss.

You are Autumn
seemingly solid as wood.

I pocket you,
roll you between finger and thumb.
Palm you
as my lucky charm.

Yet there is a hint of death in you.
And a tree.

I am holding you still as I walk.
Daring myself to lick my fingers
for the taste of you.

My poem written for the #FullMoon and celebrating that it is #HarvestMoon
STOP EATING THE LOVE HEARTS

We scatter snow warmth,
swell soft gifts.

Thank you, thank you.

Near wayside evening birds,
more bread.

Thank you.

Then all our food gifts –
love hearts.

Refrain.

(N.B., this poem was found in the traditional hymn ‘We Plough the Fields and Scatter’ and after it was found it was gifted its title.)

Today’s joy is coffee + conversation whilst waiting for a mot. The mot was planned, the coffee + conversation beautiful moments arising from just sitting in a particular chair at a particular time near someone who had lovely chat for these listening ears. And my phone’s only out because she’s gone.

This poem is having a little trip out into the world today to honour the shift in seasons. It was originally published as part of my Silver Branch feature curated by Black Bough Poetry's @matthewmcsmith.bsky.social #Poetry #Autumn #Poems
They Are Autumn

And they look delicious
smoothed brown on the ground
with their snug little green hats.

And I want to eat some
but I have forgotten their name
and I don’t know if you can.

I give in to the temptation
to tread on some,
to feel them hold out
before my weight cracks them open.

All I know is they fell from the tree above.
Its leaves are telling me it’s an oak,
and I know so much depends upon this tree,
but it takes me all day
to remember acorns.

Full moon soon so here's a poem for the #SturgeonMoon. I wrote this poem after standing under the #FullMoon in 2022...
UNDER A STURGEON MOON

She is eating birds again
saving the heads till last.

She won’t tell anyone
how much the feathers
in her stomach worry her.

Of all the reasons
sturgeon might leap
she hopes
it is simply for the feel of it.

She stands still in her own silence
waits for the splashes to reach her ears.

Another bird puffs
a last breath from its beak.
