Court can't go on like this. The Constitution as plainly as possible says people who were born here have an unequivocal right to citizenship. Four people whose ONLY job is to read the Constitution for the rest of their lives just tried to overturn it because they're tired of brown people. Pack it.

Genuinely appalling that Dick Durbin, the highest-ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, keeps (accurately) calling Trump's judicial nominees "MAGA loyalists," and has also personally voted to confirm NINE of them. What are we doing here, man.

Senate Democrats Are Not Taking Their Jobs Seriously
If Trump is picking judicial nominees who will serve as “MAGA loyalists,” why are you voting to confirm any of them?

This is going to be met with a bunch of "that will never hold up in court" responses. Ok. So do it anyway. Force this administration to make its preposterous masking arguments in front of federal judges. Make them defend secret police on the record. Go on the offensive.

LULAC makes Callais worse: Justice Alito's Callais opinion purports to preserve claims in which there's evidence of racially discriminatory intent. But this is the same Court that simply waved its hands at a district court's *detailed* factual findings of exactly such evidence in the Texas case.

I would argue that the case for dismantling ICE has, at this point, virtually nothing to do with larger questions of immigration enforcement and reform, it's just clearly incompatible with a free and democratic society to maintain a secret police force with sweeping and arbitrary authority.

Senate Democrats absolutely have to shut the govt down to stop this ICE insanity in the Twin Cities. This is not sustainable & cannot be normalized. Any Democratic vote to provide money to the thugs who are brutalizing this community is a grave betrayal to the people here. Accountability can't wait.

It would take a two-word amendment to 42 U.S.C. § 1983 to subject ICE agents and other federal law enforcement officers to the same liability for constitutional violations that local and state officers currently face. If Congress actually cared about what it's seeing, it could pass that overnight.

they didn’t leak it to make the shooter look innocent, but to make the victim look guilty. not guilty of a crime. guilty of having a visibly queer wife. guilty of liberalism. guilty of opposing the regime. they don’t seek to exonerate themselves, only to demonstrate who deserves to die.

A handful of Senate Democrats keep voting to confirm Trump judges, and again, I just don't think I'm asking for much when I say that if a judicial nominee is playing footsie with Trump's stolen-election conspiracy theories, Democrats shouldn't give them their votes! This isn't complicated!

The Supreme Court majority has decided that they are the fact-finders, and the facts are what they want them to be, and quite frankly if District Courts disagree, they can pound sand because they're not the ones in charge. They're right about the last part. But the damage they're doing is longterm.

What this shows yet again is that DHS's "official version" of events simply shouldn't be believed without verification. In video after video, claims made by DHS officers and DHS itself were shown not to have occurred at all — or to have occurred in a substantially different way than first described.

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it. Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.

Can you put into words what that purpose is? You and the frog have really become icons of this protest.

There’s been a nice overall whimsy that has shown up. The frog is amazing. We had a bunch of other inflatable people here last night, too. I saw people playing Twister the other day.

What they rely on is fear. So by coming out in an absurdist manner, it speaks to them, to some extent, that we’re actually not that afraid.

It also dismantles their narrative a little bit. When they try to describe this situation as “war-torn,” it becomes much harder to take them seriously when they have to post a video saying [U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security] Kristi Noem is up on the balcony staring over the Antifa Army and it’s, like, eight journalists and five protesters and one of them is in a chicken suit.

If Dems win in 2026, we need hearings to publicize the abuses by federal law enforcement. Then pass a bill creating a path to sue for those abuses. Trump will veto it. Let him. Let the public see these videos & hear from victims, & then learn there's no way to hold the abusive officers accountable.

This point from Sotomayor: what Kavanaugh is proposing to shift administrative burdens from the state to the individual, with the widely-agreed upon expectation that the burdens will fall heavier on some groups more than others.
away from his job to a warehouse for further questioning. More fundamentally, it is the Government's burden to prove that it has reasonable suspicion to stop someone. The concurrence improperly shifts the burden onto an entire class of citizens to carry enough documentation to prove that they deserve to walk freely. The Constitution does not permit the creation of such a second-class citizenship status.

Extremely helpful from @pkrugman.bsky.social about why markets' reaction to Trump's attempts to abolish the foundations of American prosperity have been so muted, even as he's gone after Fed independence: paulkrugman.substack.com/p/why-arent-... It's even got a political epistemology angle.
Why not? Do financial markets doubt that Trump will get his way? Or do they reject mainstream economics and the clear examples of countries like Turkey and Argentina?

Neither. My read of economic and financial history is that market pricing almost never takes into account the possibility of huge, disruptive events, even when the strong possibility of such events should be obvious. The usual pattern, instead, is one of market complacency until the last possible moment. That is, markets act as if everything is normal until it’s blindingly obvious that it isn’t.

The inimitable Nathan Tankus summarizes this by saying that the market is not, as stylized economic models would have us believe, a mechanism that pools the knowledge and informed judgment of millions of investors. It is, instead, a “conventional wisdom processor.” That is, it reflects views that seem safe to hold because many other people hold them — and the crowd only abandons those views when they become blatantly unsustainable.

“you’re too confident!” packer is essentially saying, “you must understand that the people do not like us and we must genuflect to them before making our case.” this misses, however, the fact that whatever contempt voters have for liberals flows from a sense that their representatives are cowards
