You're only ever a recession or an inflation spike away from your opposition gaining power, so you have to want them to respect the broad norms.

Gordon Ramsay: "Wow, nothing but maggoty bread? You think of Orcish cuisine, you think fresh, vibrant. It's like the chef has just given up, where's the passion, the anger? A taste of Mordor this isn't. What a shame. There isn't even any meat on this menu."

For Fathers' Day, Keir Starmer posts a photo of his own father, who died in 2018, and a non-political message. The replies are a torrent of vitriol & cruelty, all with hundreds of Likes. We complain a lot about the quality of leadership, but there's a huge problem with the way we treat politicians

The attacks on Ed Miliband, the one truly successful person running a department under Starmer, shows that the lack of seriousness in British politics goes way beyond No.10 to the press, the trade unions, the business sector.

A lot of this is downwind of the fact that making policy around the optics of what grieving parents think needs to happen rarely, if ever, leads to good public policy outcomes.

This is the issue in a nutshell, isn’t it? No. Rental properties are not there to “supplement your pension”. They are there to provide people with the most basic human necessity and it should be a full time job.

I honestly have nothing but withering contempt for people like this. They are consumed by No Bedtime Socialism. It's atomised hyper-individualism masquerading as something collectivist. The people who suffer the most here are staff and consumers due to the impact it has on inflation.

*rant incoming* "We should be doing it more thoughtfully, and more slowly" says lady in this article.... No. We shouldn't. We've had fifty fucking years to do things carefully and slowly and what that's mean is that we've done bugger all in that time to even keep pace with climate change (1)

Had a dream that there was global panic about the world running out of oxygen, Nintendo was the only video game company to make a statement about it, and the internet collectively spent its final hours on Earth debating whether Nintendo was being genuine or not
A fabricated statement from Nintendo of America's Twitter account addressing a fictitious scenario in which the Earth's oxygen supply is presumed to be depleting at a rapid pace, leaving humanity with mere days to live.

"This is Miyamoto. On behalf of everyone who is employed at Nintendo Co. LTD and its subsidiaries, we deeply mourn the countless human lives which will be lost due to the depletion of the global oxygen supply. To anyone who has ever played one of our games, we are eternally grateful to have created long-lasting fun and memories for you. To ease the suffering of families and children across the world, the Mario Kart World game for the Nintendo Switch 2 system will be available as a free download on Nintendo eShop for the foreseeable future. We hope this small gesture of kindness will ease the pain as humanity prepares for a worst-case scenario."

The statement is distastefully plastered with logos for Nintendo and Nintendo Switch 2, as well as with a render of Mario from Mario Kart World.A fabricated Twitter thread responding to the fabricated Nintendo statement.

John Default Profile Picture: "No one read this statement and thought it was distasteful? Why did Miyamoto think this would help anyone?"

NintenDeen: "Simple: Nintendo is so depraved that they'd exploit a global crisis to boost the player count of the failed Mario Kart World and force consumers back into the Switch 2 ecosystem to boost sales and player numbers."A fabricated Twitter thread responding to the fabricated Nintendo statement.

PlayStation Nation: "What the fuck are you doing falsely advertising sales during these trying times? I went to the website and Mario Kart World is still selling for $80 USD."

Kremling Kevin: "If you actually read the statement, it clearly says the discount is available on Nintendo eShop. Meaning the application on the Switch 2 itself, not the web browser version."

PlayStation Nation: "Point still stands."A fabricated Tweet responding to the fabricated Nintendo statement.

Isaboner: "Nothing for Switch 1 owners?"

This house tax pretending is making me more insane than usual because as a renter I’ve had to move every 1-3 years just as standard because rents always rise. And no one cares. House owners get a tiny fraction of that precarity and suddenly it’s the worst thing that’s ever happened

i really believe in tackling gender inequality but few things seem quite as wrongheaded to me as the demand to transfer wealth from poorer younger generations with a far-distant retirement age, lower real wages and very little hope of property acquisition, to wealthy boomers who didn't read a letter

You and everyone else are not going to make me watch a Sydney sweeney film 😂I had heard her name somewhere. No idea what she has been in. Not *that* interested either tbh 😂

So, to recap Hennimore, Nigel Farage will be arriving at the NEC to give his keynote address at 12noon. You are to welcome the Reform UK Leader, and then escort him to Hall I, where he will surprise the activists by giving the address on a giant computer screen, to be broadcast nationwide.

Co-sign this. Labour's position is bad but it is also a) mostly self-inflicted b) they could get out of in all sorts of ways c) there are good reasons to think there are global winds that might help them out *anyway*. The opposition should be much much much more worried that it is not doing better!

There’s something really disturbing to me about the way the media, and indeed her own mother, continue to talk about Brianna Ghey - a constant focus on publicising her mental health, as if she’d committed suicide, and never focusing on the transphobia that actually led to her horrific murder.

Always love stories like this. If this person had “fought the war” then she’d have to be over 100 years old. To be fair, she doesn’t say what conflict they fought in. Maybe she nearly lost an eye in the Culture War.

The fundamental flaw with the Democratic Party is that they do not recognize themselves as political leaders who drive and shape public opinion, but as especially powerful bureaucrats. It’s probably related to how many of them come urban machines where getting elected is basically getting promoted
