I'm about halfway through the third area of Samus Returns I think? Besides the melee counterattack, which feels like it prolongs combat rather than enhancing it, I'm a big fan of how the movement and mechanics are handled. It's no wonder MercurySteam has become the defacto 2D Metroid studio

My gf took me to see the Resident Evil movie and as someone who hasn't played the games and doesn't watch many horror movies, the lack of survival instincts from anybody kinda undercut the scare factor. But my gf kept describing it as "exactly what playing the games feels like" which was really cool

Finished my first 2D Metroid! Zero Mission pleasantly surprised me, I've heard this game described as just "the version you should play instead of the NES original" for years and was blown away when the game kept going after Mother Brain (uh spoilers for 22 year old game ig) Btw did I do good?

Three hours and 24 minutes (doesn't include my use of save states and rewind) and 54% item collection rate

Five hours and 49 minutes (closer to my actual in-game time)

I love how not a single soul has mentioned that the last time Nintendo released a 2D Metroid they also released new model of Nintendo Switch. Also a special edition reskin launched a few months prior. Also a new Switch was released every two years up to the OLED and Switch 2 is entering year three

Have you heard? They're printing your fave on a Game-Key Card... yeah they just labeled it "Definitive Edition" to get around printing the game on a cross-compatible Switch 2 Edition cartridge. They're bundling the DLC that most players already own/played to justify the price tag too... I'm so sorry
