Evidence-Based Communication
The Pirahã language places a strong emphasis on evidence-based statements. Instead of relying on abstract concepts or reported speech, Pirahã speakers use suffixes that indicate how they obtained their information. There are three primary types of evidential markers:
Hearsay - The speaker was told the information by someone else.
Direct Observation - The speaker has seen the event firsthand.
Deduction - The speaker infers the information from available evidence.
For example, instead of simply stating, "Your boat has a hole in it," a Pirahã speaker would specify whether they personally observed the hole, deduced it from the boat sinking, or heard about it from someone else. This precision in communication highlights the Pirahã people's preference for firsthand knowledge over speculation.

Indonesia was Dutch for longer than Taiwan belonged to mainland China, but for some strange reason (racism) plenty of people understand that the Netherlands storming Jakarta would be imperialist aggression and seem to think the PLA marching into Taipei is just a reaffirmation of the natural order.

No, it is proving that a bunch of things we assumed were optimal because they “looked nice” in a certain sense were wrong because a far uglier solution was better. Example: the tightest way to pack 9 squares into a big one is with a 3x3 grid of side length 3. The best way to pack 11 is this:

Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

So when Jesus says “blessed are the meek” he doesn’t mean the downtrodden or the gentle. He’s talking about a dynamo of manly/equine energy, restrained only to be harnessed for WAR, baby! Jordan Peterson seems to have popularized this one.

Interesting to see how China is regulating AI companions including saying that chatbots cannot create ‘emotional reliance or addiction’. Fines are relatively small but seems like some companies are taking it seriously www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Chatbots can't create "emotional reliance or addiction" or induce people to make
"unreasonable decisions". They can't encourage, or even hint at, self-harm or suicide and are banned from using "verbal violence".
Companies can face fines of 200,000 yuan
(E22,000) or the risk that the government
"circulates criticism", in effect publicly shaming them.
A week before the law came into effect, two of China's biggest tech companies, Alibaba and ByteDance, shut down the companion features on their Al assistants.
