Rewilded land remains green amid drought-stricken English countryside, images show
National Trust’s Holnicote estate says restored wetlands and rivers offer proof of resilience to drought, wildfires and flooding Aerial footage of an estate in Somerset has revealed the benefits of rewilding land in the face of extreme weather brought about by the climate crisis. The area of the National Trust’s Holnicote estate where rivers have been returned to their natural courses and wetlands have been restored have remained green and lush during the five heatwaves across the summer. In contrast, the surrounding countryside has become parched and brown. Continue reading...

My GP approves 12 months of prescriptions to my pharmacy to fill monthly, and the pharmacy are pretty accommodating about doing one early if I'll be away (aware a block pre-approval may not be an option if you're just starting on it though)

Hey, so as a Jew I would consider it a personal favor if the "world's oldest Jewish newspaper" could avoid writing articles implying one can quantify Jewishness... ... let alone those that seem to imply the formula for quantification hinges on vocal support for the Israeli government's policies.

Deploring Israel's actions as a state isn't antisemitic. Attacking Jews and symbols of Jewish culture in supposed retaliation for Israel's actions is however *textbook* antisemitism and these are not complicated thoughts to simultaneously hold in one's head.

🔍Almost 70% of bowel cancers missed at colonoscopy are avoidable This study creates the first national system for identifying post-colonoscopy colorectal cancers and understanding why they arise ➡️ buff.ly/kmsoxGh
Quote from Eva Morris reading: The NHS holds uniquely rich data that, when linked and used effectively, can simply and efficiently identify missed cancers, improve training, and make diagnosis earlier and safer. We can, and should, be doing more with NHS data to save lives.

Concerned that we are losing the necessary ratio. 15% of teachers/faculty should be irretrievably strange eccentrics. Every learning experience should have some element where in later life you can reflect with former classmates about how bizarre at least one (1) class per year was.

fundamentally the problem is that if you think "hotels are where I stay on holiday and I like being on holiday so living in a hotel must be fun and it's not fair others get to do it and not me" then you have the intellectual reasoning of a little child and it's going to be hard to engage with you

My latest cartoon for @newscientist.com
Panels one and two:
Two white mice make their way through a maze.

Panel three:
Having completed the maze, the two mice are rewarded with some fruit. Two scientists watch them. One says:
“Poor little things: all that thought and effort just to earn themselves a little treat.”

The second scientist looks at a clock and says: “Coffee time!”

Panels four and five:
The two scientists make their way through a maze of corridors to a door marked “Canteen”

Panel six:
The scientists look at the food on offer. One says: “Ooh, Donuts!”
