Slowly getting there, for @skullsandsheets.bsky.social amazing auction to raise funds for domestic violence charities. Adding Mari Lwyds in appliqué & embroidery to this 1950s floral tray cloth, layering fabric fragments & embellishments from other eras, enjoying the enthusiastic amateur approach
A white lace edged tray cloth embroidered with pink blue purple and green flowers and grey spider webs, with two Mari Lwyds added in black thread embellished with pieces of a white lace doily, pearls, white buttons and beads, and a scroll with the words memento Mori embroidered in black on a scroll across the middle, the cloth is resting on a hot pink quilt

Human beings became the apex predator on this planet for one (1) reason: we work together better than any other species that has ever existed. That's why primates were so successful and that's why humans emerged as the primate that stands so far above the rest.

Red slate dagger with a bear head, from Pyhäjoki, Finland. Neolithic Stone Age (c. 5200-1800 BCE). Found in a gravel pit excavation site. This artifact is well-preserved with no signs of wear. Perhaps a ritual implement?

National Poetry Day, you say? It has to be this:
Kim Addonizio
TO THE WOMAN CRYING UNCONTROLLABLY
IN THE NEXT STALL
If you ever woke in your dress at 4 A.M. ever
closed your legs to a man you loved opened
them for one you didn't moved against
a pillow in the dark stood miserably on a beach
seaweed clinging to your ankles paid good money for a bad haircut backed away
from a mirror that wanted to kill you bled
into the back seat for lack of a tampon
if you swam across a river under rain sang
using a dildo for a microphone stayed up to watch the moon eat the sun entire
ripped out the stitches in your heart
because why not if you think nothing & no one can / listen I love you joy is comingTattoo on my arm that reads “listen I love you joy is coming”

Trying something a bit different with ink and bleach. I’ve been using fountain pen ink (specifically black Quink) and bleach in combination for years and wanted to make some imaginary landscapes in a slightly more ‘decorative’ style. I’m not sure this is the right paper though.

The death penalty is a moral abomination. State-sanctioned barbarism pushed by incompetent morons and sanctioned by the Supreme Court. Absolute ghoul shit. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
The lone woman on Tennessee's death row was still alive after she was administered two lethal injections, her lawyer said in a motion seeking to halt her execution Wednesday night, a stunning development after the Supreme Court had stepped in to allow the state to put her to death.
At 8:26 p.m. local time, witnesses said
"executioners had injected both syringes of lethal injection chemicals and Pike is still alive and snoring," her lawyers said in a federal court filing.
They said Pike "has not lost consciousness and still has a heartbeat," and that curtains to the death chamber "have gone down twice."

On National Poetry Day, here’s a short poem about the power of poetry to change the world.
The Power of Poetry

with things falling apart
and anarchy let loose,

it was only poetry, he found,
which had any use,

so he reached for his copy
of The Complete Works of Yeats

and bludgeoned the President
of the United States

Capital punishment is wrong. The “Justice” system often gets it wrong. Subramanyam Vedam spent over four decades in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. The FBI withheld exculpatory evidence. He was finally released in 2025 and immediately grabbed by ICE. There’s no “justice” to be found:
