so my weird "What If Sakurai made Smash on the PS1" mockup was uploaded to Instagram by somebody and holy shit ya'll...
I know media literacy is terrible now, but there are legitimately some people saying "Where is Ratchet and Kratos???" for a PlayStation ONE roster 💀

Virtual Console Changes
Text
(A table of two columns corresponding to the [1] Famicom and [2] Virtual Console versions of the text at hand:
[1] "• ドラクエの フォー やった?
おれ
まだスリーでくろうしてるんだ。"
[2] "• あのゲーム やった?
おれ
まだやってないんだ。"
Translations
[1] "• Have you played Dragon Quest IV?
Because I'm still having trouble playing III!"
[2] "• Have you played that game?
Because I still haven't played it!"
)
"In the Japanese version, a kid in Twinkle Elementary asks you if you've played Dragon Quest IV yet (which was notably not out yet by the time of Mother's release), and admits that he hasn't because he's still stuck on the third game. This text was rewritten to avoid any specific references by changing "Dragon Quest IV" to the much more vague "that game", as was the case in the Mother 1+2 version of the game.
(In case you're wondering, the Beginnings version of the line wasn't altered, as the games it mentioned were changed to "Super Mario Bros. 7" and Super Mario Bros. 3 respectively in the localization.
