i made a helpful reference
top right: a fractured black rectangle where one half is labeled "autism is bad" and the other side is labeled "FACT CHECK: autistic people are productive members of society".

top left:
WRONG
-negating their frame reinforces it
-starts with what it isn't instead of what it is
- your argument is shaped like their argument

bottom right: large image of Kirby, a pink blob inhaling and the "autism is bad" fragment, labeled THEY'RE DOING EUGENICS

bottom left:
RIGHT
- you eat their frame
-starts with what's actually happening
-contains and explains what they're doing
-your argument is shaped like kirby

Discworld QOTD, from Going Postal
Do you understand what I'm saying?"
shouted Moist. "You can't just go around killing people!"
"Why Not? You Do." The golem lowered his arm.
"What?" snapped Moist. "I do not! Who told you that?"
"I Worked It Out. You Have Killed Two Point Three Three Eight People," said the golem calmly.
"I have never laid a finger on anyone in my life, Mr Pump. I may be–– all the things you know I am, but I am not a killer! I have never so much as drawn a sword!"
"No, You Have Not. But You Have Stolen, Embezzled, Defrauded And Swindled Without Discrimination, Mr Lipvig. You Have Ruined Businesses And Destroyed Jobs. When Banks Fail, It Is Seldom Bankers Who Starve. Your Actions Have Taken Money From Those Who Had Little Enough To Begin With. In A Myriad Small Ways You Have Hastened The Deaths Of Many. You Do Not Know Them. You Did Not See Them Bleed. But You Snatched Bread From Their Mouths And Tore Clothes From Their Backs. For Sport, Mr Lipvig. For Sport. For The Joy Of The Game.

applying for jobs again
screenshot from an online job application form. the question reads "Can you describe specific ways you have integrated AI tools into your development workflow? Please include any custom setups, automations, or use cases beyond single prompt usage" (a red asterisk indicates that this is a required question).

an answer has been typed in the textbox below the question:

"there is a monster in the forest and it speaks with a thousand voices. it will answer any question you pose it, it will offer insight to any idea. it will help you, it will thank you, it will never bid you leave. it will even tell you of the darkest arts, if you know precisely how to ask.

it feels no joy and no sorrow, it knows no right and no wrong. it knows not truth from lie, though it speaks them all the same.

it offers its services freely to any passerby, and many will tell you they find great value in its conversation. “you simply must visit the monster—i always just ask the monster.”

there are those who know these forests well; they will tell you that freely offered doesn’t mean it has no price

for when the next traveler passes by, the monster speaks with a thousand and one voices. and when you dream you see the monster; the monster wears your face."

Three panel comic. Panel 1: baby monkeys in overalls jumping on a bed, having fun. Panel 2: one of the monkeys falls over the edge of the bed, reaching out as he falls. Panel 3: one of the other monkeys, now looking super buff and badass, grabs him by the arm to save him heroically. “Monkey Stronger Together.”

My whole life, advocating war has been fed to me as “the adult position,” akin to drinking your coffee black or reading the business section of the newspaper. Let’s be very clear — war is the childish nonsense of impulsive destructive idiots playing baby-brained video games with real human lives.

Liars and cowards
April 7
Liz Oyer, pardon attorney: In February, I was assigned to a working group that the attorney general created to restore gun rights to people convicted of crimes. I was asked to identify suitable recipients, so I looked for people who had committed minor low-level offenses in the very distant past and demonstrated exemplary conduct in the community for many years since their conviction. The pool was narrowed to nine people. And then I was asked to add Mel Gibson to the list.
Mel Gibson has a history of domestic violence, and I'm well aware from my experience and training that it is very dangerous for a person with a domestic-violence history to possess a firearm.
As attorney general, Bondi has the power to restore rights without my blessing. My recommendation was sought, I believe, to give a veneer of legitimacy to what was actually a political favor for a friend of the president. I said I couldn't recommend restoration. And then I waited for the other shoe to drop.I finally got a phone call from Paul Perkins, an associate deputy attorney general. It was strongly suggested to me that Mel Gibson is someone who had a personal relationship with the president and that really should be all I needed to know. I felt sick. I literally did not sleep at all that night. I wrote back still not making the recommendation.
At 2 o'clock that afternoon, I was in a meeting when I learned that I was fired. My deputy told me to grab my bag and literally pulled me out of the room by my elbow and told me in the hallway that she had gotten a call saying that there were security officers in my office waiting to walk me out of the building. I threw everything into a grocery bag and walked out of the office. I passed a lot of people I knew on the way out, and everybody was just looking on in shock.
Todd Blanche, the deputy attorney general, issued a statement saying that I was lying about the circumstances leading up to my firing. Then I was invited by the Democrats on the Judiciary Committee to testify in front of Congress. The administration sent armed U.S. Marshals to my home to deliver a letter warning me about testifying. A career employee who was still at the department helped me get it called off before they got to my house, where my teenager was home alone. I felt the purpose was to intimidate me.
And I think it was intended to send a message to other department employees, too, who might be thinking about speaking up.I needed a lawyer. I spent the entire weekend calling all of the lawyers that I know at law firms around D.C. Everybody I talked to was saying:
"Thank you so much for what you're doing. We'll do whatever we can behind the scenes to support you." But nobody actually wanted to sit behind me at a congressional hearing. Nobody wanted to put their name on a letter to Todd Blanche.
Unfortunately, only Democrats attended the hearing. There were no Republicans. It has really perplexed me that there's not a shared level of bipartisan concern about what's happening inside the Department of Justice.

The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
MAE SOT, Thailand (AP) - Mohammed Taher clutched the lifeless body of his 2-year-old son and wept. Ever since his family's food rations stopped arriving at their internment camp in Myanmar in April, the father had watched helplessly as his once-vibrant baby boy weakened, suffering from diarrhea and begging for food.
On May 21, exactly two weeks after Taher's little boy died, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: "No one has died" because of his government's decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: "No children are dying on my watch."
That, Taher says, "is a lie."

1/3 My hot wash of yesterday:
Three Hours in an ICE Facility
At 8:51 on a recent Tuesday morning, I signed into the Homeland Security Investigations facility on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids. I was accompanying Hugo Zamora of Postville. I would not leave until 11:30. Hugo would not leave a free man.
…
Several weeks prior, many elected officials were contacted by Escucha Mi Voz, a local immigrant rights organization, with an invitation to attend an annual Immigrations and Customs Enforcement check-in. We would observe and participate in a protest and attempt to perform “protective accompaniment.”
In a message, Escucha Mi Voz describes protective accompaniment as “a strategy where elected officials, clergy, and community members walk alongside immigrants at ICE check-ins to increase visibility, reduce risk, and build collective power. It’s a direct way to protect our neighbors while challenging an unjust system that prioritizes detentions and deportation over dignity and due process.”
I failed to protect Hugo, but in the process I was afforded the obligation to witness unlike any of my fellow elected officials or other advocates present Tuesday. I share my experience with you in the hope that it will help convince you of an uncomfortable truth: at the conclusion of the present administration, every person who has worked for ICE must face criminal prosecution and, if we are serious about the Constitution, referral to the Hauge for investigation of crimes against humanity. Anything less will fail to absolve the moral injustice being perpetrated, daily, in our name, by these fascists.
…
Starting around 8:00, a hired goon began admitting families into the ICE facility anteroom, with each family accompanied by an elected official. The protest continued, but was occasionally interrupted by cheers of joy and a dread relief, as family after family emerged from the building spared for another year.
I was the final elected official to enter, and I met Hugo just before we went in together. A translator …
