So, Cobra is stupid, 80s action, right-wing bullshit but it is entertaining in a short, stupid, 80s action way. If you don't ask too many questions. It's kind of Dirty Harry with more stupidity and whining about criminals having rights. I'd put it low down the list of 80s action. @smershpod.com

Yeah, I always think School Reunion is a bit of an insult to Sarah Jane In some ways. Mostly not, but not every woman should pine after the Doctor.

So, the Night Slasher attacks anyone but his first two victims we see on screen - and not the ‘Asian immigrants etc’ - are women. And then he tries to get Brigitte Nielsen

Finally been listening to @johnrain.co.uk & friends #DoctorWho podcast 'A Wheezing Groaning Sound'. I dipped back into stories I like/love to get the vibe and then listened to the most recent Dalek Invasion of Earth one. They like Season 17 (mostly) so I'm in.

UAE can fuck off then. This 'threat' just shows how utterly corrupted Man City are by their owners. It gives even more incentive to boot them out of the EPL and the EFL.

My friend's parents sent me nine volumes of this. These pictures are from Volume 2, which is 1915. There's so many good pictures. #FirstWorldWar #IllustratedHistory

I spent most of the evening getting a grip to my out of control labyrinth of rabbit hole reading. I think I've got it. Now I just actually have to do some reading.

For a group of people that claim to be pro-life the US Supreme Court loves an execution. It's almost as if they're hypocritical bastards.

It is National Poetry Day today. I did finish Seamus Heaney's translation of 'Beowulf' this morning, which I like a lot. It's the second 'Beowulf' translation I've read this year - after Maria Dahvana Headley's. This also means I've completed my read of all Seamus Heaney's poetry after two years.

Ah, Simon Clarke - blue tick tosser. That is all. Plus he was born in 1984 so his memories of the 70s are...non-existence. He's relying on myth. I'd argue that he probably didn't have much memory of the 80s either. I was born in 1971. My memories of the 70s are misty for most of it.

I had a suspicion this might happen, which is why I decided not to bother. I had an experience at a Hokusai Exhibition at the British Museum where the way it had been laid out made it an unpleasant experience - even though the art was amazing.

www.theguardian.com/world/2026/o... - This was interesting. I'm not expert enough to say how well his thoughts hold up but I do think he's got a strong point about how the threats of violence/revenge are a key part of the appeal of the far right. Just no one who votes for them wants to admit it.

‘Hitler was a lazy criminal who slept in until noon’: why most of what we think we know about the rise of the Nazis is wrong

I know we're heading for the Remembrance Day Wars (again) so here's my tuppenceworth: wear a Poppy if you want, wear a White One if you want, or don't wear one at all. Remembrance doesn't have to be performative. Me, I focus on the men and women who did the dying (and the living afterwards.)

Tony Cross @lokster71.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I keep seeing an advert for the most tasteless Remembrance Day shirts/T-Shirts. They have the comments blocked on them so you've no idea where the money is going but fundamentally don't buy them because they're kitsch shit.

You have to be a moron to deny the Holocaust. It's the most well-attested genocide in history. There's paperwork, there are statements from witnesses, bystanders, and perpetrators. Any claim that you have any brain at all is made invalid by your Holocaust denial. Holocaust denial is reality denial.

This Man City thing is going to go on for years. They've got the money to keep suing to find a loophole. They'll take football down with them. And I don't think the EPL has the willingness for more court action. Although I suspect Man City have lawsuits coming at them from other clubs.

There is a kind of World War Two 'history' that fetishizes German military technology as if a) they're geniuses and b) that technology might make you forget the War Crimes.

I get the impression when I read about the Police wanting to use Palintir or Facial Recognition Software is that they're looking for some magic wand that will allow them to sit in their offices all day whilst criminals are fall into their lap.

I am working on my own experience here so I'm anecdotal but I'm now convinced that if you block right-wing accounts on Meta the Meta algorithm feeds more of them into your timeline. I thought this on Instagram. I think it even more so on Facebook. I think someone should probably investigate this.

We're at the Emperor's New Clothes point of AI now aren't we? No one wants to admit that they've been taken for a fool (and CEOs continue to pad their reputations with dodgy claims about the benefits of AI or the saving they can make) so the bubble is still not quite bursting. But it is coming.

Someone should write a long article about how respective British governments have undermined Britain's abilities to withstand a variety of system shocks by privatising or cutting things. This is just one.

The stupidity of handing the responsibility for this over to a 'disruptor' (a word that sounds the knell of doom every time I hear it) is the sort of thing that should get the people who decided to do this fired. But it won't.

I have made a dent in @sadiahqureshi.bsky.social's 'Vanished'. I like it a lot so far. It is already making me think about extinction in a different way to how I'd already thought about it. It also reminds me - once again - that the British Empire was a crime against humanity.

I'll say it again I think, at this point, J K Rowling's transphobia has driven her to the point that she doesn't think about how what she's saying sounds to people who aren't in her little coterie of hangers on and yes people. You sound batshit crazy to me JK.

Do I think Man City will get a proper punishment? No. They'll get a huge fine and a points deduction but it won't be as large as it should be. But personally anything less than what Luton Town got will be a joke.

Yeah, its always the West innit Owen. It's like Russians have no agency of their own. I mean the West has its problems but turning Vladimir Putin into a murderous dictator isn't one of them. That's the whole fucking history of Russia, which touches upon the West but isn't just about the West.
