AI reviews (1) are rarely the most scathing - they tend to hedge and dole out "major revisions" to duds and good papers alike; (2) tend to gnaw at limitations reported transparently in the paper, rather than figure out obvious-but-unsaid problems. Both tendencies have obvious systemic downsides.

Yeah. That’s exactly what happened.
After the hearing, Schmitt insisted he'd gotten nothing wrong, but he seemed less sure Smith had committed perjury.

A phenomenal moment in the Senate. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., claims he has evidence Jack Smith went to a HAWKS game in Atlanta. Smith denies it. Schmitt declares he has busted Jack Smith for perjury. Smith, vexed, says he went to HAWKEYES game in Maryland. WATCH IN FULL, UNINTERRUPTED

Mulhouse was its own little republic for a while, in association with the Swiss cantons. It was reunited with France in 1798 (or on 25 Ventose, Year VI if you like). Its flags were pulled down and some objects symbolising the Mulhouse republic were buried at the foot of a ‘Tree of Liberty’…

Luxury retailers want taxpayers to fund a 20% tax break for foreign tourists. They paid consultancy Cebr to claim this will raise £2.6bn for the UK. That convinced Sadiq Khan and Kemi Badenoch. But it's false: a free lunch. Four basic errors mask a £600m loss. Thread:
