Because why would engineering students ever need to study the ways their very expertise has been used and abused in the past, the way 'oh, I'm just an engineer solving a problem' has been a necessary and foundational lie in every modern system of oppression or extermination?

Here's how we get Medicare for All done: Make Medicare whole (no one can keep all the parts straight!) Include vision, dental, and hearing. Begin extending to more people, starting with children. We arrive at Medicare for All, which means great Medicare for everyone.

The entire thread is great, and well worth reading- but this spoke to me. Books at their best can build empathy by allowing us to inhabit the lives of others in ways that other media has much more difficulty doing.

So we've now discovered the magic new technology of ::checks notes:: patriarchy...in allowing wealthy male elites to seem super-productive by also appropriating the cognitive labor of women who remain mostly uncredited. 🎉 Everything is Gender, Exhibit Eleventeen Billion.

The real problem of artificial intelligence is that people get one-shotted by their own pareidolia and think that because an algorithm can produce coherent sentences that are occasionally also correct, it must possess a human mind and be capable of performing a variety of intellectual tasks

Once again this isn't like gay marriage. We're not asking for something new. We're asking not to lose rights we've had for decades. When Dems say they agree with enacting new restrictions on trans people, that's a betrayal. They are actively going out of their way to harm trans people.

It's hard to describe, but a good argument, well-organized with good evidence reads 'smooth' - you cut right through it like butter. Bad arguments or badly written arguments feel like trying to glide over gravel, with frequent stops. That goes for student papers too.

The most pernicious thing about the “look forward not back” approach to politics is that it ignores the fact that laws can only be upheld and consequences applied by looking back. By devaluing that, we’ve effectively crafted a lawless society, taken advantage of by easy absolution seeking assholes.

If you're a stranger to the author of a feed and—having entered their home unsolicited—say something that'd cause a homeowner to ask you to leave their home, you'll be ejected.
