For most, the peak moment of your life is debatable, slippery, dependent on how you classify living well. For others, well, it's more clear.

Horrible day. ICE is preparing a deportation flight to Laos so some of my former, current, and were-to-be clients are being brought to the Whipple Building and shipped off to Louisiana for final removal. Lots of calls from them, their families, and friends. So much pain visited on our community

Rode in Babes in Bikeland yesterday, my first alleycat. Had a great time until the heat exhaustion kicked in! Cool ride, brutally hot day for it.
Manifest for Babes in Bikeland identifies alleycat stops in Minneapolis. A few hundred female & femme bike riders gather near the Greenway for the start.

The Count Binface stuff happening in the U.K. is a real good bit. Hope everybody subjects themselves to British politics long enough to look it up. The British version of Trump really will be spending the summer fighting with a sentient trashcan.
Rachel Reeves, who as Chancellor of the Exchequer had to appoint Farage as Steward of the Manor of Northstead before the by-election could go ahead, said on social media: "If [Farage] wants to spend the summer arguing with a bin, I won't stop him".[66]

Binface received a surge of support from activists after announcing his candidacy, raising more than £15,000 in donations in a day, which he described as akin to a "fever dream". He said he hoped to appeal to voters from all sides of the political spectrum and said he could even court the immigrant vote, given he was "the ultimate alien".[63]

“How much is a magical world worth?” A beautiful thread about Cabo Verde, the Peace Corps, and the World Cup:
Jill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
If you ever doubt how magical this world is, one day you will decide to go to a World Cup watch party in Oakland that you found online to root for a country where you spent two years trying to coax English out of the mouths of Cape Verdean teenagers. 1/7
11:42 AM • 6/25/26 • 670K ViewsJill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
And at the watch party you will ask the organizer if he's from Cape Verde. He will say yes, from Praia. And you'll say oh! I lived there for two years. I was a teacher. And he will ask, "What's your name?" You will tell him and he will say,
"You were my teacher."
CABO VERDE
11:43 AM • 6/25/26 • 92K ViewsJill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
And across 30+ years and 6,000 miles you will hug a now man who tried to find you and remembered the songs you taught him and his classmates and he will apologize for how badly behaved they all were. And you will laugh and try not to cry and gape in wonder at at this crazy world.

Jill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
You will remember how much you love the World Cup. And what the Peace Corps meant to you. What those students, 40 to a class with no glass on the windows, meant to you.
11:43 AM • 6/25/26 • 62K ViewsJill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
Ivan, the grown man with a touch of grey in his beard, will tell you later he has struggled to describe what it meant to him to meet again - that he shared our photo with classmates.
And when he returns from watching the Cabo Verde game, we will try to find the words together.

Jill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h And then you read that the US
House of Representatives will vote a day before that game on an amendment to eliminate the Peace Corps, which costs 1/6 the price of the Tomahawk missiles the US used in the war on Iran.

Jill Tucker @jilltucker •20h And you wonder: How much is a magical world worth?

Happy Confederate Surrender Day from Minnesota where we still have your goddamn flag and we’re not giving it up. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/28th_Vi...
The 28th Virginia battle flag is a Confederate battle flag that belonged to the 28th Virginia Infantry Regiment. Captured by the 1st Minnesota Infantry Regiment at the Battle of Gettysburg, the flag was brought to Minnesota and exhibited at the state's capitol for several years before passing into the permanent collection of the Minnesota Historical Society after 1896 where it has remained since.

In case you missed it, Congress passed funding for most federal science agencies, with most receiving shallow cuts, just slightly less than under Biden. This is a HUGE repudiation of the administration's war on publicly-funded science (and a repudiation of DOGE in particular).
