In exciting Midwest passenger rail news, starting today Amtrak's Borealis now runs with 4 Superliner coaches instead of 3, adding 75 more seats. Dash 8-32BWH #518 is on the rear of the first 4 car run, passing Imniza Ska slightly behind schedule.
A passenger train lit by the sunset. At the head is GE P42DC #54, behind it are 4 silver bilevel passenger cars, each with a red, white, and blue stripe. At the rear is a strange angular locomotive, a GE Dash 8-32BHW. Behind the train a steep wooded hillside rises, and above it are patchy clouds lit by last light.

I’m guessing this is one of our worst matchups but playing the Liberty makes it seem like we just literally don’t have a center. ANY healthy center. Howard is great. Phee is great. But Jones and Stewart are just so damn big, man. I believe we can do this but man it’s tough.

A footnote to my Lyme story: my husband hunts deer because we have WAY too many in the DMV. I call venison hyper-local, climate-friendly protein with ecological benefits (a take that is not wildly popular in Takoma Park). But after my diagnosis, I have a new slogan: eat the deer, reduce the ticks.

There is a real psychological effect when you see how white, how male-dominated this space has become in the past two years alone. It’s about paying the bills but it’s also about who can imagine themselves doing this work. Please advocate for the people who have always made this field special.

Unlike their fans, neither #Lynx Coach Cheryl Reeve nor her players blamed the Game 1 loss on the officiating. Instead, they cited the obvious: Lack of flow on offense, and inability to move Breanna Stewart off the spots where she dominates. #Liberty @wnba.com

Twin Cities/Midway, You getting amped for the Midway Music and Arts festival Oct 2-4?! Lets make this inaugural community festival an epic success. Together, we forge a sustainable path forward & show up for community/neighborhood engagement. Lets be joyful! Spread word! www.midwaymusicandart.org
Text:

THREE DAYS OF MUSIC, ART, AND COMMUNITY IN THE HEART OF ST. PAUL
Halfway between downtown St Paul and downtown Minneapolis, the Midway is much more than a place to pass through. This is a place of intersections of all kinds. Where people, cultures, and communities share space and build connections. Midway is where we come together.
The Midway Music and Arts Festival is a neighborhood-wide celebration spotlighting the creative energy, cultural diversity, and small business ecosystem of St. Paul’s Midway. Anchored in the idea that the Midway is both a geographic and cultural meeting point, the festival brings together music, art, literature, and community. Our local parks, small businesses, and performance venues will transform into arts spaces and stages, hosting events that range from arts and crafts show to live music, and from literary readings to DJ sets, creating a dynamic, walkable, transit-oriented experience that encourages exploration and connection across the Midway.

This. Several rural DFLers voted against marriage equality a little over a decade ago in Minnesota and it was still a prime campaign point against them (and they lost). Just vote for what’s right. People deserve rights. They’ll campaign against you either way.

It was Black, queer women who built the league. I have no trouble acknowledging that as a straight, white woman — or in applauding the so-called “disgruntled lesbians,” of whom Cheryl Reeve is one, for striving to protect this special community they’ve created.
