Created a dragon eye fruit gaussian splatting model. Twigs moved during photoshoot, compensated as best as I could. Used Spirula Studio.

The best part of being an artist is that you can just draw whatever dumb idea comes to your head at 1am
A scene parodying the Neon Genesis Evangelion scene of Asuka and her Eva unit getting pierced by the spear of longinus. In this scene, Linguini and Remy from Pixar's Ratatouille take the place of the EVA unit and Asuka respectively. Linguinis eye is pierced by a fork version of the spear and Remy is depicted in an inset where he is grabbing his eye and screaming like the anime. There are anime subtitles at the bottom that say "AHHHHHHHHH!"

I found out that one Lichtfeld Studio training run can be used to seed the next by replacing colmap/sparse/0/points3D.txt with any .ply renamed as points3D.ply. Or simplify the .ply by lowering splat count etc into a new points3D.txt

New gaussian splat experiment. I tried focus bracketing for the closeup images but I don't think I was close enough nor took enough shots. But the stacked images looks noticeably better than any individual source image.

Guassian splat experiment. This time it is much more solid. Next experiment is to add a fill light to accompany the sunlight. Also try closeup shots and deal with shallow depth of field with focus bracketing. Learned LichtFeld Studio has --resume option so can avoid exporting json config.

LichtFeld Studio uses less VRAM in headless mode. With a small test in my Windows machine, VRAM usage stays at ~3-5GB in headless mode. Before, with the GUI, that test would use up all 6GB of available VRAM plus lots of shared memory and I'd have to end training fast.

Recent test gaussian splat rendered in Lichtfeld Studio. Bits of the oranges are slightly transparent. I blame it on many pictures not surviving the alignment step in RealityScan. But I'm happy that it looks pretty good in most angles and didn't have any weird fluffy wisps around the subject.

Took my first stab at photogrammetry. The good news is it's feasible. Just made it harder on myself scanning a small object with some reflective surfaces, no lighting setup, and iPhone Xr camera. Embrace the jank.

Read the whole thread. On top of this, at least for now, the programmers deskilling themselves in this way are offloading the duty of paying attention to whoever gets stuck with the code review and maintenance, meanwhile collecting the kudos from management for "being so productive with AI".

It's funny that everyone who has *ever* programmed, knows how important attention to detail is. Hours wasted because you made a typo, forgot to add a character, etc. The tiniest thing you literally don't notice is wrong, and your program screams at you and dies. This is a universal experience.

I wonder how many billions of human hours are wasted because of interfaces trying to be friendly instead of effective? Because some designer only thought of initial users and not long-term users? Users who would like to accomplish effective work in as few clicks and presses as rapidly as possible?

The other day @davatron5000.bsky.social shared a link to the new `stretch` keyword in CSS – and I saw a lot of questions about how it's different from 100% (or 100vh when doing full-screen layouts). So I made a quick video to show how these all work! #CSS youtu.be/iZZXOuLxagE

They did it. A framework bult on the top of Tailwind to avoid the "ugly" HTML and the endless class names. Looks quite familiar to what we can already do with a "style.css" file. At least they acknowledge that the HTML is ugly.

Personally, I find an exceptionally well executed foundation much more attractive than "build fast and break things". Because I'm building a business that should last, is maintainable and a joy to run. Having to put out fires every 2 hrs isn't the way I want this to be. #buildinpublic #marketing

Consider a programmer looking at code they themselves wrote a year ago, now having to identify and fix a bug. They have to rebuild the mental model of what is going on, which is easier if they have already had a mental model of what is going on.

the use case for every LLM is producing a slop that someone then has to spend hours editing into something usable. as many hours as they would have spent doing it from scratch, if not more. it's a scam aimed at owners & managers who don't know how to do the work and won't listen to their workers.

Programmers report that their skills are atrophying with too much use of LLMs. The problem with generating code, text, etc. is that you don't exercise the necessary repetitions to develop or maintain an intuition, awareness or taste for doing “the thing”. Without care, anything gets worse.

Does it bug you that Flexbox always ends up with a very few items in the last row, stretched out extra wide? What if the layout was balanced kinda like `text-wrap`, using: item-pack: balance; Learn more about this idea, and much more: webkit.org/blog/16587/i...
I screenshot of the article, starting at "Currently, Flexbox places items on each line without any regard to what’s happening on the other lines."

I just got patronized by someone to use Cursor bc companies want devs to ship code fast and that’s what they’re looking for apparently… like wtf - so they want me to ship code I don’t fully understand as long as it’s fast? Might as well just ask someone with 0 programming knowledge to do that.

Placeholder text on inputs bothers me because it's one of those design things where if you ask designers to make it pass color contrast they say "No that's too dark, its just placeholder text" but then if you ask to remove it because its not important enough to be readable they say "No, its needed".
