playoffs.bsky.social @playoffs.bsky.social · 02/09/2026I found out that one Lichtfeld Studio training run can be used to seed the next by replacing colmap/sparse/0/points3D.txt with any .ply renamed as points3D.ply. Or simplify the .ply by lowering splat count etc into a new points3D.txt 000
playoffs.bsky.social @playoffs.bsky.social · 19/08/2026Lots of transparency issues - hope it is fixable with more training iterations. For now, tried the "Sequencer" mode in LichtFeld Studio to make some movie clips. Interesting controls in there but keyframe transitions are jerky. Sticking with 2 keyframes then cutting / compositing shots elsewhere. 000
playoffs.bsky.social @playoffs.bsky.social · 19/08/2026New gaussian splat experiment. I tried focus bracketing for the closeup images but I don't think I was close enough nor took enough shots. But the stacked images looks noticeably better than any individual source image. 130
playoffs.bsky.social @playoffs.bsky.social · 02/08/2026Guassian splat experiment. This time it is much more solid. Next experiment is to add a fill light to accompany the sunlight. Also try closeup shots and deal with shallow depth of field with focus bracketing. Learned LichtFeld Studio has --resume option so can avoid exporting json config. 010
playoffs.bsky.social @playoffs.bsky.social · 31/07/2026Plan moving forward is to go into GUI to pre-vis at lower fidelity, train for a 1000 iterations to make sure things are ok, then setup for highest quality + export json config, train in headless mode. 000
playoffs.bsky.social @playoffs.bsky.social · 31/07/2026I noticed this today when I tried Linode's GPU server by the hour plan with headless Linux. I was surprised to see VRAM usage never go above 6GB used out of a possible 20GB VRAM. 100
playoffs.bsky.social @playoffs.bsky.social · 31/07/2026LichtFeld Studio uses less VRAM in headless mode. With a small test in my Windows machine, VRAM usage stays at ~3-5GB in headless mode. Before, with the GUI, that test would use up all 6GB of available VRAM plus lots of shared memory and I'd have to end training fast. 100
playoffs.bsky.social @playoffs.bsky.social · 31/07/2026Regarding LichtFeld Studio, it uses less VRAM in headless mode than with the GUI. Worth giving it a try if you haven't already. 100
playoffs.bsky.social @playoffs.bsky.social · 22/07/2026By chance, fiddling with the config on another prototype resulted in lower VRAM usage so I brought this dataset out to retrain at full image resolution. For reference, images were taken with an iPhone XR. After masking, closeups on the subject are ~2000 pixels at widest axis. 000
playoffs.bsky.social @playoffs.bsky.social · 22/07/2026Here I am toggling between renders with full resolution source images vs downsampled by 2. Originally had to downsample to prevent Lichtfeld Studio from crashing due to my obsolete budget 6GB video card. 100
playoffs.bsky.social @playoffs.bsky.social · 22/07/2026Recent test gaussian splat rendered in Lichtfeld Studio. Bits of the oranges are slightly transparent. I blame it on many pictures not surviving the alignment step in RealityScan. But I'm happy that it looks pretty good in most angles and didn't have any weird fluffy wisps around the subject. 100

playoffs.bsky.social @playoffs.bsky.social · 19/01/2026Originally just wanted a test 3D model to experiment with inside a webpage but I don't think there is any native browser support for <model> elements. Can't run AVP simulator. Filesize is also a constraint - was able to simplify this model from 37MB to 2MB. Want to avoid bad loading times. 000
playoffs.bsky.social @playoffs.bsky.social · 19/01/2026I like RealityScan Mobile's near realtime feedback on where better pictures were needed. And I was able to quickly learn enough in desktop RealityScan to make the model somewhat presentable. It was fun and maybe I'll try Blender to fixup the holes. 110
playoffs.bsky.social @playoffs.bsky.social · 19/01/2026Took my first stab at photogrammetry. The good news is it's feasible. Just made it harder on myself scanning a small object with some reflective surfaces, no lighting setup, and iPhone Xr camera. Embrace the jank. 140
