Someone a few seats down from me at the NY Philharmonic on Saturday was not-so-surreptitiously taking videos of parts of the performance. And that's the least annoying of the things I've seen and heard there w/r/t phones.

The GOP is an opposition party even when it's in power, the idea that they are the perpetual underdog is central to their internal mythology and can't be disturbed by facts or the results of elections. It's also why they're bad at, you know, governing.

I am an old man whose music tastes ossified in the mid-90s. If you are preparing music discourse think pieces, please do not mistake my unfamiliarity with any tunes released since then to be a cultural signifier of anything other than my oncoming descent into the grave.

I assume I’ve heard “Choosin’ Texas” at the grocery store or some other retail establishment and just didn’t notice it.

Tonight’s movie was a 10th anniversary show by 5 Seconds of Summer. It was weird: lots of songs, some sketches, some interviews, it was made in 2021 during Covid in Australia so only the band was on camera for most of it. Some of the songs are catchy.

Well let’s see how this goes. I’m constructing a new hour of standup and I need some people to watch it. Could YOU be a people? Saturday 11/28 at the Elysian. Tix: bit.ly/cbwpft1126

Doctor Zaius and I agree that you should get your flu and COVID shots.

I'm under no illusions about how things are or what the trajectory is. But I'm also excited for the future because that is where I will hang out with the people I care about and do the things I like doing, or haven't done before. Weird but telling that this holds less appeal for much richer people.

Pompeii is a UNESCO world heritage site not because it was remarkable in its prime, but because it survived to our era untouched: one moment, preserved for all time. But future generations won't know what OUR world was like unless we do the same. This is why we MUST bury Toronto with a volcano

Cities should be paying people to bike. Cities should be buying people e-bikes. Cities should be rewarding people for convincing neighbors to ride bikes. Every trip by bike is a net financial gain socially. And it compounds, the more people who do it.

Imagine accepting these first two sentences from the NYT piece as a normal feature of American life: "What can a laid-off worker over 50 do to get health insurance? Besides staying healthy until Medicare kicks in at age 65, the answer is: Not a lot."

Got notice last week that the construction company building the new condos across the street (yay!) will be tearing up the road all week between the hours of 9pm and 5am Why, you ask, would they jackhammer all night near thousands of people trying to sleep? So they don’t inconvenience drivers!

Pretty much every country outside of the United States got the memo that to avoid being held hostage by a dictator, they gotta wean themselves off of fossil fuels. And no, I don't think Democrats got the memo either, given how many have sandbagged the most basic electrified public transit projects

I actually came up with the idea of filling the triumphal arch with "sniper ammunition" and drones. My thought was, since it's going to be hollow inside (?) there's a lot of great storage space in there that would otherwise be going unused. Simply put the sniper ammunition and drones in there.

I saw at least 3 AI-created flyers/posters on my morning walk in Brooklyn, and a bodega that had covered their windows with AI slop of products that they sell. The product logos and text were all messed up. I don't want to destroy all AI, but the one that makes these signs can go.
