If you came to municipal leadership trying to work their way out of a financial hole and proposed that they should offer fully or even partially subsidized storage of personal property, you'd get nowhere. But that is the reality we've slow-boiled our way into. Great piece by @blindeke.bsky.social

One simple solution to St. Paul’s budget woes
Free or nearly-free parking is a nice-to-have in St. Paul, but when the city is in the hole, it’s time to rethink old policies.

Thank you as ever to the podcast team at Streets.mn for making me sound smart and good at talking. Rural areas deserve transportation equity too, and we get there by showing up in more places than just urban cores.

Requiring human monitoring of underbaked, unproven technology is a simple and common sense regulation. These vehicles don't even have a way to clear their own sensors yet. These vehicles are programmed to park in bike and bus lanes. "a driver in a driverless car" is a bad faith argument.

We are at City Hall to call out @mayorjacobfrey.bsky.social for his disgraceful steal of climate funding to fill his budget gap. That money comes from our utility bills and is funding home energy retro fits for low-income residents.. SHAME on Mayor Frey! We need City Council to fix his mistake.

There are numerous signs & concrete emplacements making it clear that the driver should not have continued onto one of the few bike/ped bridges in the state. There is insufficient funding going towards education + licensing enforcement as the likelihood this kind of behavior becomes more likely.

The benefits of riding a bicycle are more than cardiovascular. The benefits of riding a bicycle are more than musculoskeletal. And riding an e-bike still gets you those. Getting around your community isn't a competitive sport. If you think it is, that says more about you than about the e-biker.

Bike/pedestrian networks don't take 30 years to build. Stop accepting those timelines in your community. The best practices have been proven & they already exist. Safety should already be the #1 priority. The ROI is unbeatable. The timeline is a moral document and it shouldn't be generational.

Regardless whether you make this event... This Wednesday, Sept. 30th, 2026, consider planning to take transit to/from work —maybe with an accountability buddy. Share on socials w/ hashtags like #TransitToWorkDay & maybe #WeekWithoutDriving2026 since it's the day before Week Without Driving begins!
top left, logo:
7 orange rectangles above the words WEEK WITHOUT DRIVING (the word "without" is in orange, while the other words are in black above & below it, respectively).

There is small black text from this screenshot from the website week without driving: October 1–8, 2026.
Someone has highlighted that text with orange to draw attention to it. Beneath it, in larger orange print, they have also rewritten that information, drawn a black oval around it, & drawn an orange arrow from the logo on the left to those words on the right.

There is an orange button that reads DONATE on the right.

There is a grayscale photo of a diverse group of people standing around on the side of a city street, with one person in a wheelchair centered in the foreground, a person with a child in a stroller in the background, & a person with a bike in the background.
On this grayscale photo, there is a black box with white text that reads,

"What would change in your life if driving wasn't an option?"

Whoever made the screenshot has also drawn an orange line underlining that text in order to draw more attention to it. “By highlighting how there are people who lack access to driving in every community, Week Without Driving helps win policies that support access for nondrivers across both rural and urban communities, and everywhere in between.”

The person who made this screenshot, has drawn alternating black and orange arrows from the bottom of the photo down to the impact statement.

Elected leaders opposed to adequate funding for parks make it clear that they: 1) Don't go to parks in nonaffluent areas and see the disinvestment 2) Don't talk to the parents and residents who rely on parks programming 3) Don't understand that money can be saved by spending a small amount first

Cities should be paying people to bike. Cities should be buying people e-bikes. Cities should be rewarding people for convincing neighbors to ride bikes. Every trip by bike is a net financial gain socially. And it compounds, the more people who do it.

Waymo/CAV is kind of a funny topic from afar. On the one hand, the public has shockingly little understanding of the actual tech realities. On the other hand, there's broad excitement about the idea of them. Which is really just excitement about transit, minus the sharing of space or efficiency.
