It's nice to see a 'cozy' game in a setting that doesn't sugarcoat things. Ecological collapse, crime and stress abounds, but you also get to run a street corner restaurant or nightclub and hang out with the regulars. Word is this one's a performance hog, though.

In the games user research space we've actually had to change how we talk about game systems with playtesters, because while 'NPC/Enemy AI' is common developer jargon that players used to be fine with, the term has been thoroughly poisoned by GenAI and will now elicit negative reactions from many.

So-called AI detection tools might be an even bigger scurge than AI. I was talking today with a student (a senior), who shared that they now have to spend time "dumbing down" their papers--shortening sentences, removing advanced vocab and punctuation--because otherwise they get flagged as "AI."

When a game is sufficiently large, it incentivizes me to look up outcomes because I DO NOT have the time to replay a 300 hour game. Given the choice of "spending time playing a fucked up save" or "getting to see the cutscenes I want" I'm going to pick the latter for my valuable free time.

This also applies to narrative choices. Sometimes designers will create a quest where players can choose options a) b) or c) and it's our job to ask "Why would anyone want to pick c?" Sometimes it's okay for an option to be there because it would feel weird if it weren't there.
