Even hotter take: the fact that ebikes let teens in the suburbs suddenly have freedom to move around the public realm unsupervised is precisely why many older people are trying to ban them (using safety as a pretext)

[in a very MICHAEL STIPE voice:] 🎼 that's Rahm on the High Line 🪕 🎵 that's Rahm on a park … bench … 🎻 💭 thinking he'll be POTUS 😆
A post to X by political consultant John Anzalone, who wrote:

"Underestimate @RahmEmanuel at your own risk. He knows how to win. He knows how to fight. And he knows how to message.

"And no one will out work him. Regardless of whether he wins the Democratic nomination in 2028 he will make an impact on the race. You can be sure of that. Don't take your eyes off of him. At the minimum, learn from him.

"Rahm Emanuel Makes His 2026 Play"

The last line is the headline of a Sunday piece from the New York Times, the preview card of which features a photo of Emanuel seated on a park bench that looks like it's someplace along the High Line in the Meatpacking District.

86yr old killed a pedestrian, still driving a truck now. Carbrain in my mentions said traffic deaths are accidents absent intent. All that means is drivers and traffic "engineers" think victims are beneath consideration. They say car dependency. I say my family and I depend on not being murdered.

What's most offensive about this story is the driver saying all the magic words which should contribute to her charges, but are used to absolve her deadly behavior: I didn't see him The only time when talking to the police can actually help you instead of hurt you.

A sad but predictable story out of Michigan. Suburban voters refuse to fund legitimate mass transit options, which leads to 85 and 95 (!) year olds driving and eventually hitting and killing pedestrians. Jaywalking laws are human rights affronts. www.freep.com/story/news/c...

Love how Nike felt inspired to throw a swoosh on these mouthguard straps that you would never see if players actually wore the mouthguards. But because they never do, and they flap all over the place during play, might as well throw a logo on them!

This incredulous $37m price tag for the sign fiasco is $37m that could have been spent on hiring bus drivers to fill in Better Bus gaps or to fix issues with the GPS transponders that lead to ghost buses. Riders wiping asses with $37m would have been better. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...

A further thought: if you’re taking the admin’s explanation for the Guard’s deployment at face value (you should not), follow-up with questions: How are they evaluating “success”? What benchmarks are they looking at? What goal are they working toward? If they can’t or won’t answer…it’s illegitimate.

Making our streets safer for pedestrians would be a start. Barriers to protect pedestrians-including cyclists-from drivers such as: guardrails that protect pedestrians instead of keeping drivers from driving off the road & removing "pork chop" islands for right turn on red that endanger pedestrians
