Good thing we cut back on frequency. The green line trains are having to turn away people at the downtown platforms headed to the state fair.

We need a shout out for State Senator @nathanfortexas.bsky.social running for Corrupt Ken's old AG job, who sponsored it in the senate. We are now exploring putting some iteration of the opt-in bill to city council in Dallas.

TX26 election synopsys: Suburbs raging b/c their car-dependent lifestyle costs another $1.50/gallon; the third rail of Texas politics, public schools is under direct and active threat, which is generally the number one employer in rural counties. The cities have always been under atack.

The governor proposing to cut all property taxes for public school funding is some crazy work. Those property taxes are what they are because he refuses to fully fund public education. Giving him more control over local public school education would fully kill public schools which was/is his goal.

In the 1950s the trucking industry was skeptical of the plan to bring highways directly into and through cities mixing local and interstate traffic.

Our built infrastructure robs kids of their freedom of independent mobility. Streets are dominated by oversized vehicles, piloted by aggressive and distracted drivers where one mistake can turn lethal. We sacrificed child development to subsidize the auto industry.

That's 300 acres of low assessed value property. If all of those properties could be repositioned/developed to achieve the downtown average assessment, that's 5x increase in value and $5 billion extra on the Houston property tax rolls.

That's a minimum of $5 billion in private property wealth and tax base reduced via proximity to the inner highway loop, which is on top of the direct costs of the highway right-of-way in the Atlas of Inner City Highway Impacts:

I have not seen any confirmation of this. But tolls are 1) the best way to manage congestion on an existing network and 2) needed to maintain a system where taxes and other user fees do not cover full O&M. The problem has been Tx uses tolls for continual system expansion.
