This is wild - somebody did a deep dive into the real stories behind this famous XKCD: sheets.works/data-viz/hol...
an XKCD comic showing a precariously assembled tower of blocks. much is labelled "all modern digital infrastructure." a thin leg down at the bottom is labelled "A project some random person in Nebraska has been thanklessly maintaining since 2003."

After more than 200 years, the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation is coming home! I am proud to have worked with Chairman Rupnick to secure $1M to build a Tribal Government headquarters here, on Illinois soil. Honored to have played a small role in this long-overdue homecoming.

may you be filled with the confidence and verve of this “corpulent rearing steed”
DIEGO RODRÍGUEZ DE SILVA Y VELAZQUEZ (1599-1660)
Caballo blanco
1634-1638

Oil on canvas
This corpulent rearing steed with both forelegs off the ground has long been considered the one listed in the inventory of assets that Velázquez left in his studio at the Casa del Tesoro, a building beside the Alcazar in Madrid, after his death. It is drawn with the skill and style that characterised Philip IV's court painter, demonstrating his ability to produce a lifelike representation with a minimum of technical resources. It is clearly a finished work, pending the addition of a rider in the saddle, although it may have been intended as a model for other equestrian portraits. The picture is documented in the Alcazar until 1700, but at some point it disappeared from the Royal Collections and was not recovered until 1848, when Isabella II bought it fromDIEGO RODRÍGUEZ DE SILVA Y VELAZQUEZ (1599-1660)

A squirrel is standing inside and peeking over the top rim of a hollowed out pumpkin. The top of the pumpkin can be seen behind. The squirrel is wearing a slouchy black witch hat with orange stripes and holding a squirrel-sized chef knife. The knife is because the squirrel has carved the words ‘MAYBE IT WILL HAPPEN’ in the side of the pumpkin and in the ground in front the word ‘TODAY’ has been spelled with stringy orange pumpkin guts with seeds scattered all around.

“Spaghetti Night.” Pen and copic gray marker on paper.

Our man is in the kitchen making spaghetti for his guests, who have become increasingly rowdy as they wait for dinner. More on them in a moment. He speaks into his landline phone with his oven mitts on, “Everybody’s pretty riled up for spaghetti night.” He is correct because sure enough we see his riled up dinner guests in the background. Two men play wrestle as a woman raises her hand to spank one of the wrestler's cheeks. She’s got great leverage on the windup so those cheeks are about to be pummeled, reader. Another man finds himself being carried by a woman with a crew-cut. Her strength is on display here because despite the man’s weight she’s able to effortlessly run around the living room with him slung over her shoulder like a ragdoll. Behind them we see another spaghetti night guest pumping his fists and shouting to the ceiling. Perhaps howling.

Artist’s note: One of my favorite drawings. Love seeing the whole group having a great time together.

Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

Because it was going into competition, I couldn't show results of this until it became public. Yesterday I found out it won "Best use of color" at the Big E Agricultural fair in Massachusetts, Lace division. Come by the exhibit hall to see our lace group's stuff. #BigE #SpringfieldMA #BobbinLace
A photo of the framed Medieval Peacock Milanese lace project on my work table. It is framed as a diamond shape, and it is a swirly and colorful abstract peacock drawn like one of those stoned monks did in illuminated manuscripts.

Mostly in blues, greens, yellows, golds. Silk threads.A close up of a section of the swirly lace area that includes a giant spider motif, and the outer blue tail of the peacock in other patterns.

A bit of the curly-cue antenna thing is also shown, in yellow and gold.An image focusing on the peacock head and body.

Gold curly head things, yellow beak, blue head and torso (but kind of abstract). And the little booties that absolutely cracked me up. Yellows and blues and outlined in the dark blue. The framed and hung version of the peacock on the wall. I always wanted a diamond shaped framed piece for my house.

youre probably looking at this fruit and thinking ‘wow, that must grow on a tropical island somewhere’, and you’d be WRONG AS HELL. its a pawpaw, the largest edible fruit native to north america. this is our first one and it tastes like banana, vanilla, and cantaloupe made a weird ass threesome baby
a pawpaw fruit still clinging onto the tree outside my bedroom door, but it’s gonna fall soon and im gonna eat it and pretend to everyone that i love itthe pawpaw has been sliced open revealing its mushy yellow private innards. if you eat the seeds or the skin something bad happens, and might happen even if you just eat the mushy part too idk, the internet is full of rumors. i will find out the truth the way nature intended: just eating it anyway and seeing if i shit myself at dinner. stay tuned.
