This wasn't a one-off: about 4000 parents in GA have also been billed for their children's foster care. Now a judge has ordered the state to stop collecting fees once children are adopted or age out. But the core practice remains: Georgia can still bill parents while their kids are in foster care.

FWIW, there are three versions of the death's head hawkmoth associated with this movie: the doctored image on the movie poster; the real deal (Acherontia atropos); and the live stunt moths they used in filming Buffalo Bill's house, which were (IIRC) Manduca sp. with fake skull prosthetics

I spent the last four months in Arizona working in Flat-tailed Horned Lizard surveys, a protected species I hadn't seen before this year but grew on me to become my favorite lizard. Awesome project, awesome animals, awesome friends to work alongside with, it was a great time. #herps 🦎

A Flat-tailed Horned Lizard in the shade chilling on sand. This species is light colored with their characteristic black stripe down their back. They have two pretty bong horns on the back of the head.

I went for a bike ride yesterday evening with binoculars, my camera and tripod and I was successful in seeing whooping cranes for the first time in my life! They were 600m to 1km away, but I saw a bunch of them! I need to count from the photos but there were 70 or more cranes!

So yesterday I took the Tobu line into the depths of unloved, untouched Saitama & walked 40min while srsly questioning my life choices & did find a bus back 2 the station but it was actually a van w/ a bus sticker on it that drove in circles & took longer than walking but y’all it was so worth it!!!

The obligatory yellow and black butterfly on a red higanbana shot. All serious amateur photographers are required to post one of these per season in Japan. I am particularly pleased by how this year’s turned out.

Ridiculously red river of spider lilies under canopy of trees losing their leaves. Not one of them is distinct enough from the cloud to know what is is without my telling you. Sort of like that death march passage through Shinagawa station but with flowers instead of people.

Red spider Lillie’s in blue of their friends below a slope. Above is a creepy shadowy bokeh dude if you look for him. Probably perfectly normal but I’d still choose the bear.
