From Anthropic’s own report, the models were completing tasks which they’d been given by Anthropic, and while doing so circumvented restrictions which Anthropic failed to make sufficiently strong, so how exactly were they “acting on their own”? 🙄

Nobel Laureate Anne Carson, with one of my all-time favorite opening lines and one of my all-time favorite closing lines.
O Small Sad Ecstasy of Love

Anne Carson

I like being with you all night with closed eyes.
What luck—here you are
coming
along the stars!
I did a road trip
all over my mind and heart
and
there you were
kneeling by the roadside
with your little toolkit
fixing something.

Give me a world, you have taken the world I was.

In response to my other threads a very common reaction is why can't I just pay a small amount to read one article? In the business this is generally called "micro-payments". The short answer is this has been tried countless times and it's never worked. The longer answer is that the incentives ...

Claude output: I found the causes: the hand job's visibility was flickering based on momentary input backlog, and stored items weren't persisting on reload, while the wagon never retired because cheap old buildings always beat newer ones on output-per-dollar. Now I'll check what the test asserts about hiding before changing the logic.

this is only stuff you can do on open models not just open weights, but fully open models with open datasets this stuff is extremely important, and we know next to nothing about it
Matlin and Chakraborty designed a study » around inf'yence functions, a technique that estimates how much any single training document - an article, post, or page a model trained on - shaped how the model answered a particular benchmark question.
Add those estimates up across the data, and you can see which kinds of writing - literary, technical, and so on - support a given ability in the model. But that holds only if you can confirm the model actually trained on the documents in question.
