When white supremacists described the first black politicians winning elections in the South during Reconstruction, they too called it a "reign of terror" that innocent white people had to suffer under. Black leaders! Elected to federal office! Can you imagine the indignity?!

I am very tired of the stupid-savvy 'oh you think politicians were honest before Donald Trump' take, like yes there has in fact been a qualitative change in the way modern american politics have been conducted that is largely attributable to him, and is bad.

“housing is a human right but the problem is developers who build housing” is simply not a coherent message Especially when you consider the fact that Seattle has actually done a decent job at building housing and is relatively affordable as a result compared to other high demand cities
Pramila Jayapal O @PramilaJayapal

Seattle has one of the worst housing crises in the country. I see it every time I'm home in my district.
People working full-time jobs who can't afford rent. Teachers, nurses, and transit workers who can't live in the city they serve. Families on housing assistance waiting lists that have been frozen for years.
This is a policy failure, not an inevitability.
We built this crisis by choosing developers over people. We can choose differently.
Housing is a human right. We fight for it like one.

Zaid Jilani: "I live in MTG's district, and she's not a white nationalist. And she's now an important critic of Trump. Contrast this with how Ossoff has cited MTG's new opposition to Trump to rally support.

AOC continues to be juvenile."

The “Epstein Class” plausibly means “billionaires,” and it also plausibly just means “men,” who are really the group of people at issue here, but Marjorie Taylor Greene more likely is using it to mean “Jews.”

Trump's reelection basically meant that white collar crime is now legal, except when it can be used as a cudgel against his political or personal enemies. The task of rebuilding the DOJ after this debacle is going to be epic and thankless.

A state that redraws its legislative maps before every election to maximize advantage for the incumbent party is not a democracy or a republic and in any case obviously violates the guarantee clause, among many others. No country does this. No country ever thought of doing this. It is a total farce.

Let me get this straight: Bari Weiss has radically edited the new Trump interview on 60 Minutes? Let's not forget that Weiss lost her mind over standard editing of a Kamala Harris interview in 2024. But as Juliet shows, this Trump editing goes way beyond standard broadcast practices. Good grief.
I went through both and made a transcript of exactly what was included and what was cut from the shorter version that aired on network television. The final 13-minute edit that CBS broadcast on Sunday was a bit of a Frankenstein monster as the president was sometimes cut off mid-sentence while other sections were cut and moved around to give the conversation a better flow.

Throughout the longer un-edited interview the president gave disorganized rambling answers that were filled with false statements about foreign investment in the U.S., immigration, and the 2020 election. He also brought up transgender athletes more than once and trashed the Democratic Party and the members of the press.
