We need to dramatically reduce the paperwork and administrative burden for tenants and applicants to "affordable housing." Many many people who would qualify for rent-restricted housing instead choose market rate units at around the same cost because of the invasive and constant paperwork!

Rarely has the Oregon city seen such a narrow price gap between market-rate and affordable units.

I'm tilted as fuck that @mayor.seattle.gov has helped SPD extort another ~$70 million from the community SPOG ignored her direct orders to help with ICE, worked to undermine her initiatives, and continued to target queer people for violent policing I don't fucking get it @hannahkrieg.bsky.social
Post from @hannahkrieg.bsky.social on Instagram:

Mayor Katie Wilson's budget boosts SPD's budget 13.9% — $488 M to $556 M — to fund 1,250 officers, or 66 new cops.
For comparison, Mayor Bruce Harrell increased police budget from $355 M in '22 to 488.59 in '26 for an average of 9.35% increase each of his 4 years.

In Seattle, affordability requirements carry no corresponding offsetting benefit for developers, which makes them a tax on housing. In Bellevue, affordability requirements come with a generous property tax exemption that offsets the added cost to developers. Here’s the scoreboard:

Sound Transit is going to install fare gates at over a dozen stations. Fine, whatever. But the agency also loses a lot of money due to people not paying their car tabs every year. Does anyone know how much ST is estimated to lose each year to car tab nonrenewal?

Thinking about how King County Metro is adding four hundred bus trips tomorrow compared to the week prior and FIVE HUNDRED trips on Sunday. It's going to take a lot of work to maintain those service levels into the future, but it's been awesome watching Metro embrace the idea of an all-week network.

Bit of a long thread here, but the main point: SPOG is going to do everything they can to destroy Mayor Wilson anyway. There's absolutely no reason for her to lie to trans people on behalf of the new interim SPD chief.

It is *really* not ok for the media to suddenly claim that a recall petition, which any registered voter can file, are suddenly “charges” - making it sound like Mayor Wilson is facing prosecution. These headlines are an incredibly biased attack on a progressive mayor. And they’re unusual.
seattletimes.com
Charges were filed to recall Mayor Wilson. What does that mean?
The charge filing is the first of multiple steps required before a recall effort reaches a petition stage and qualifies for a ballot.

You know what else is a "political phrase"? "Mom-n-pop landlords," a phrase Kettle just used to describe smaller landlords. There is nothing inherently better or more noble about being a person who extracts rent property they own than being a corporation that does the same.
