If Black voter turnout in Georgia had approached 60%, Kamala Harris would have won the state. There's a lot of noise out there among vibe-based pundits, but that's the number that determines a double-digit Ossoff win versus something smaller and a Democratic governor versus a Republican one.

Don't compromise with bigots. Should be an obvious political strategy. The bigots will still hate you, make up lies about how you want to mutilate children or something and never vote for you, and now you're a bigot yourself.

If you object to public-funded housing of homeless people, in the end the objection cannot be the cost, because we pay a premium to be cruel to homeless people. At the bottom of the objection will always sit dehumanizing cruelty and a desire for eradication.

Our society's unfathomable cruelty to homeless people is not just morally unjustifiable, but more expensive than housing people would be. Cruelty against the homeless is an unaffordable luxury. Abandoning homeless people to avoid offending the Protestant work ethic is an unaffordable luxury.

2 panel comic

Panel 1 is titled “Journalist logs into Twitter”
Image shows a Pink Guy performing a high jump. He easily sails over a tall barrier that says “Racism, Nazis, Homophobia, CSAM and Bigotry”. He smiles and waves at the reader.

Panel 2 is titled “Journalist logs into BlueSky”
The Pink Guy is doing the high jump again, however, this time, a much smaller barrier just says “Smugness”. The Pink Guy is clinging to the barrier, trying to hook his leg over it. He yells “Hnnngh I CAN’T GET OVER IT”

It’s important that cable and network news start bringing on leftists to talk about this moment. Their perspectives are infinitely more important than those of folks like David Brooks and Jonathan Capehart, who didn’t see this coming, fought it, and don’t understand it.

I am stunned that the constitutional question was so close. I thought it would be 6–3 or 7–2. It is profoundly disturbing that four justices would allow either the president or Congress to rewrite the plain text of the 14th Amendment. This is obviously a good outcome, but the margin is alarming.

One possible reason for not disclosing details of the US-Iran memorandum of understanding is it involves the US giving Iran a lot of money—and/or otherwise making rather than receiving apparent concessions—and the White House doesn't want a week of criticism and negative headlines before signing it.

IKEA didn't build renewable generation to power 1.47 million homes because politicians told them to. They did it because the economics stacked up. With much of the investment already paid off, savings of over half a billion USD per year on electricity costs, the fundamentals become hard to ignore.

I really think it’s important to underline that there was apparently no security breach. The gunman was confronted and stopped where he should have been according to the design—at the magnetometer perimeter. What this piece argues for is an *expansion* of the security perimeter in time and space.

Appreciate this detail from CBS News reporter Jennifer Jacobs. It's an important part of the story that seems to be missing from a lot of comments & coverage.
Replying to
@JenniferJJacobs
The shooting happened on the level above the ballroom where the White House Correspondents Association dinner was.
I don't think people hearing about this -- or even those of us in the room -- realized how far from the president, VP and other guests this incident was. It was on another floor, up some stairs and several sets of security away.
Because the Washington Hilton's hotel and other public spaces were open for other functions, the entire building wasn't secured by the Secret Service, just the specific areas where the WHCA dinner was held, law enforcement officials told @CBSNews
.
